Each evening, Victory Casiono Cruises sails from Port Canaveral at 7 p.m. into the Atlantic Ocean, returning about 5 hours later. Although there is a full casino on board, we have taken thiat cruise more for the view than the gambling, as the sun sets over the beach and skyline soon after leaving port -- a very nice view. The ship also has a top-deck lounge, an indoor club with entertainment or a DJ, and a buffet dinner, although the food was just average when we tried it. See www.victorycasinocruises.com .

On the Banana River lagoon, there are sundowner cruises once or twice a week. Operated by Captain Ben Evans. It's an open-cabin catamaran (roughly 18 passengers) that leaves from the boat ramp just south of downtown Cocoa Beach.for a couple hours or so. See www.wildsidetours.com for the schedule. It receives good reviews on TA, although most of those refer to the daily daytime tours.

A smaller, multi-deck paddle wheeler, the Indian River Queen, runs a sunset dinner cruise on the Indian River lagoon on a sporadic sundowner schedule. This is a pleasant ride, and the vessel is large enough that you can walk around. However, these have only been offered on weekends, and there are some weeks that no evening cruise are offered, so I would inquire about how it would meet your itinerary. See www.indianriverqueen.com .

On land, there are several restaurants that offer nice sunset dining from their outdoor decks. Our favorite is Jack Baker's Lobster Shanty on A1A south of downtown. Although the sunset is actually over the lagoon, not the ocean, there is enough water there that the distant shoreline is barely visible, giving the illusion of an ocean sunset. The food there is better than any of the boats, and you can also feed the fish that gather around the dock.
