You may not be aware that there is a City of Daytona Beach ordinance prohibiting live music and dancing in restaurants. Please join to show your support for live music.

We are thinking that one bar is the real reason for this so lets tell everyone they can't have live music. I think the City fathers are over the top.

I don't understand this. There is dancing at restaurants. Has something changed?

Rumor has it was written a few years ago-- an attempt to keep strip clubs from serving alcohol, and the ordinance was worded too vaguely so that it actually encompasses all "live entertainment," not just stripping. Now a club is trying to enforce it all since the city came down on them. This group is trying to get to the bottom of it all working with the chamber of commerce and city council.

thanks for the clarification. Yes, that would be disastrous if it were enforced. Good for you to try to get some action to change wording, etc.

This does seem strange. The Ohana Luau has live music, alcohol, and encourages people to come up on stage and dance. They were sold not so long ago, so they can't have been grandfathered in, can they? Or are they south enough of DB proper to be safe?

Everyone is still booking live bands and many are Grandfathered in but since one place has complained it could now be enforced. Fines are hefty. This group is trying to get the wording changed.

Tonight, the City of Daytona Beach City Commission will hold what's called a "first reading" of the amendment to modify the ordinance against live entertainment in restaurants which serve alcohol in Daytona Beach, FL. There is a motion to pass this on the "first reading" tonight, 4/7/10. If it does pass, a public hearing takes place on 4/21/10.
