Christmas in Ormond Beach

y family is heading to stay for a week at the Royal Floridian resort (Ormond Beach). I understand it is just slightly north of Daytona Beach. Some of the activities we would like to partake in during our stay would be :deep sea fishing, taking a hovercraft to see gators, hitting a big shopping mall and hiking. Any ideas on where we can go that is feasible from this location?

There are some deep sea fishing charters that originate in Ponce Inlet. You can find a few fishing charters in Ormond, but they are usually limited to the Halifax River and Tomoka River.

The largest shopping mall in the area would be Volusia Mall. The ones in Orlando are larger, but this may be sufficient for you.

Tomoka State Park in Ormond is probably the best place for hiking.

Not aware of any locations offering hovercraft excursions in this area. The Intracoastal waterway has a lot of houses and is densely populated. Also, not very common to see alligators in this area.

You could go to Gatorland in St. Augustine (1 hr.) or check down by Cocoa Beach (1 hr) - more rural in that area.

With 23 miles of beach - spend the day taking a nice stroll along the shoreline. Or, rent a bicycle perhaps!

Check out www.daytonabeach.com for more fun things to do in the Daytona Beach area.

Go to Merritt Island National Refuge south of Daytona Beach. There is a Visitor Center and they can direct you to where to see alligators. If it is a cool sunny day, they come out and warm up on he edges of the canals. Bio Lab road is the area is a good place to see them.
