Santa Rosa
Save

I am trying to plan a trip for next month and am having a hard time finding something. I was going to stay in Destin but decided that I would like to try out Santa Rosa. Having a place near the restaurants and shops is a plus, but finding a place that is actually on the beach and not across the street, or down a mile long boardwalk, would be nice. I don't know the area and am getting discouraged that I will not be able to find anything. I need at least a 2 bedroom home/condo/cottage etc. Any suggestions anyone?

I know this is the "Destin Forum" but being as Destin is so close by I am hoping that someone here might be able to help. I have tried the Santa Rosa Forum.

If you will post your question on SoWal.com under Vacation Rentals, you should get some responses.

BB-I don't know about Santa Rosa, but we have been staying in Miramar Beach and LOVE it! It is just outside of the Destin madness, but still just next to it. Kind of the best of both worlds. The beach isn't too crowded and shopping and good food abounds. We have stayed in a house on a street that dead ends into the beach about 100 yards from the house, so we don't even have to cross a street to get to the beach, but don't pay the premium for beachfront. There are several of these on Norwood street and they are only about 3 years old. Anyway, have a great time wherever you stay!

We stayed on Dune Allen Beach last year which is right there by Santa Rosa Beach area. We stayed in the Dune I townhomes. We rented thru Dune Allen Realty (http://www.beautifulbeach.com). We loved the location ~ easy to go down 30-A towards Seaside and back up towards Destin. They have a pool that is beachside and each townhouse has a screened porch. They have 2 and 3BR units with all bedrooms upstairs. Our extended family went so we had 3 units ~ 2 of our units were very nice but unit 4 was not! It was very dated and it's porch was right in front of the pool so your view of the beach was obstructed. It is RIGHT ACROSS the street from Stinky's which is a great little place to eat or grab a beer. They even have live music on some evenings.

Hey destinjimmie!

We are staying at the dune allen 1 townhomes next week. Which units did you stay in and which was the good and bad? Haven't been able to find anyone who can tell me anything about them. You are the only person I have seen who has even mentioned these townhomes. Appreciate any info!!

ernurse20!

Our other 2 units were 12 and 8. They are not anything fancy, but they were nice and they were clean. Unit 4 was just unacceptable! I was just on their website and saw that it is not available to rent until Jan.1. I wonder if it is being renovated and they have those dates marked as unavailable b/c of that. Anyway, I think you will love Dune I townhomes! There are only a few units so it is very quiet there! I also loved it's proximity to the rest of 30-A and to Destin, but yet you are out of the hustle and bustle of Destin and Seaside. Stinky's across the street is nice if you want to just walk over for a quick bite! I would not say it is the best food in the worls, but it is good and fun and best of all extremely convenient. FYI, they would not take to go orders last year, but they may have changed that policy this year. Have fun!

Try Stinky's fried shrimp poorboys. Delicious.

Be sure to go to The Red Bar. Great food and a fun atmosphere.

Thanks jimmie! Staying in unit 3. Looks like a lot of hotel furniture, but thought we could handle it for a week just to be that close to the beach. It was the only thing left for june or july when we booked in feb. Appreciate the extra info on Stinky's. Have heard good things about it. Also about Red Bar. Will have to try both! Looking forward to our trip and will update you guys when we get back!!

We love the Red Bar esp. on Friday for the crabcakes--but it can be a madhouse. Go early before 6. Oddly they have a great cheap breakfast!!
