WIll be coming through enroute from Jville back to Minnesota May 17..where is a clean safe affordable place to stay for a night or two-- preferably on the beach...no need for bar scenes or anything like that--just relaxing. Recommendations anyone?

Great place but not right on the beach is the Marriott Residence Inn. It has nice rooms, great hot breakfast and a helpful staff.

Lots of clean, safe places, but "affordable" is a relative term. What rate range did you have in mind?

On that date, both the Amelia Hotel at the Beach and the Hampton Inn on Sadler Rd. are showing rates of under $100 per night. The Residence Inn is showing rates starting at $149. If you go to Ameliaisland.com, you can punch in your dates and check all availability. The reviews will be here on TA but I've listed the two in that price range that get better reviews. The Residence gets the best reviews but they'll be higher than you're willing to pay. None of these properties are on the beach but you can walk to it from any of them. Have a good time.

One other option that is directly on the ocean and has "affordable" rates is the Beachside Motel. Rooms during the week are about $100 with efficiencies running about $25-$30 more. Read the reviews on TA as this is an older mom & pop motel which gets OK reviews primarily due to the age of the furniture. It is a small property and books up quickly, so you might want to check availability if under consideration.

Hi Lofton,

I don't know of anyplace that will allow a seasonal golf pass and you'll have a hard time finding a place that has both a pool and golf that isn't a country club. You may want to consider a membership at the Fernandina Beach Golf Club (least expensive annual) in combination with a four-month pass at the city pool http://www.fbfl.us/index.aspx?nid=214 . The YMCA on Citrona also has family memberships for around $76 a month that will include pool and kids' programs. You may want to check with them to see if you can just sign up for the season.

Good luck.
