John,

Need to better understand what your interests are - sightseeing, history, nature, etc.? FB/Amelia Island and surrounding area has so much variety in activies that I am sure you will be pleased with all your choices. You might want to look through or search some of the message threads in the past to better give you an idea.

As to tours, there are two I would recommend. One of the Amelia River Cruises to get view and history of Fernandina Beach area from the water and the AI Trolley Tours to get an overview on the uplands side of things.

Let us know your specifics and I am sure you will get lots of responses.

We have been going to Fernandina Beach for the past 6 years and have rented a house on the beach for a month.

Plenty to do: Do take the river cruise, visit Fort Clinch, check out the museum in the Historic District. Plenty of places to eat. We love Joe's 2nd St. Bistro, Espana,Beech Street Grill, 29 South, Luigi's Italian Restaurant, and if you want to go off the island, Ciao is a an excellent choice. For lighter fare try Happy Tomatoes, Kelly's Courtyard Cafe. We enjoy just walking the beach and walking around Historic Fernandina Beach. There are many shops to brouse. We are in our late 50's and can't wait to return this fall for another month of complete relaxation and great eating. One place you must try that is a local favorite is T-Ray's. It is located in the Historic area, and it took us some time to find it, very unique location.

Have a great time.

Forgot to tell you about going to Cumberland Island. You have to take a boat there and can get it right at the marina near Brett's Restaurant. Also, take one of the carriage rides around the Historic District at night and enjoy all the stories and some ghost tales. It is very enjoyable and relaxing. Enjoy!!!!

Just to clarify TripleTail's last message about boat ride over to Cumberland Island. The only service from FB over to Cumberland Island is for guests staying at the Greyfield Inn (day visitors or overnight). Amelia River Cruises used to run a scheduled ferry service between FB and St. Mary's. St. Mary's is the embarkation point for the National Park Service ferry over to Cumberland Island. However, Amelia River Cruises stopped running the ferry on a scheduled basis due to a lack of customers and now only makes the run when there is a group party request. They do run a Cumberland Island cruise that goes up by Cumberland Island and points out numerous sites seen from the water, but the boat does not dock at Cumberland and allow passengers to disembark due to the contract the St. Mary's ferry operator has with the National Park Service.

T-Rays is located in the southeastern corner of 8th Street (A1A) and Beech Street across from the Beech Street Grill. Look for the packed parking lot as there is no signage.
