Hilton Fort Lauderdale Beach Resort to Seminol Hard Rock

Casino......what is the best way to travel between the two. We were going to gamble and have dinner in the Oak Council. Drinks would be involved so we didn't really want to drive.

The only way I know of is a long expensive taxi ride- I'll guess about $50 each way maybe. Hard Rock is very far west of town and I know of no shuttles or public transportation. You might check at the Hilton, who may know of a car service- but my experience is that they are that price or higher. Perhaps if you are lucky , the Hilton has other guests who will want to share taxi cost.

Unless something has changed very recently , only a few condominium groups travel to Hard Rock by bus and those are arranged by the condos as far as I know. I guess you could try calling Hard Rock to see if they know of something I don't. A car rental would be thebest way, but I do understand your drinlking and driving worry. I suspect that general area around the casino is heavily patrolled for just that reason. It is an area owned by teh Indian tribe so that gambling is not regulated and it is a very low income area with nothing else nice around it- lots of pawn shops, adult video stores and cheap bars. The casino itself is like an oasis in a very bad neighborhood.

May have overestimated taxi fare -as google shows it to be 12 miles- so maybe more like $30-35 - 25 minutes by car on the likely fastest route I-595 ( provided it isn't rush hour or other traffic jam).

It seems longer than that to me- but then again I probably seldom go straight there from the beach. Just to warn you, if you are expecting Vegas you'll be disappointed- very high minimums ( often $15-25 on BJ ) and no free drinks are permitted. I've only been to that casino a handful of times and choose to go to Vegas instead ( 4 times a year). The casino/hotel itself is beautiful- but I just never have much fun- slots are extremely tight- never have been to Council Oaks- have heard it is good but very expensive. I don't think much of the couple of restaurants there I've tried - maybe I chose poorly.

Lulu is correct on the approximate taxi rates (the second time). If you have a car (rental) you can always drive one way and taxi it back to your hotel. (No worries about being towed in the garage, which is free.)

Having been to Hard Rock numerous times and Council Oak I can tell you the food is great. Lulu is correct that the prices are a little high, however, it is ala cart. You pay for what you receive. While it is true that the casino is not a "true Vegas-like atmosphere," its as close as you will get in the southeastern part of the country.

There seem to be two schools of thought on the Hard Rock, those of us who have done Vegas and love it find the Hard Rock a big disappontment and those who have never done Vegas seem to like it and think that is what Vegas is like. I would be horrified at the thought of spending $70 round trip for a visit but lets hope the OP likes it and gets the experience they are expecting. BTW unless things have changed there is no free alcohol in the casino and the drinks are mega expensive.

Good post Sue- Sue and I are in the same school of thought - others do seem to like it- maybe they have never been to Las Vegas... I'm a $5 blackjack, free drinks while you gamble kind of person , so HR is not for me.. just be forwarned that drinks on the casino floor are about $10 each.

Sue and Lulu are both correct on their comparison of Hard Rock Hollywood to Vegas. Having been to both places many times, I too can agree. Like I said though, it is as close to Vegas as you will get in the southeastern part of the US.

To better explain though, Hard Rock is geared toward a younger crowd as well. While is maintains the music theme throughout the casino, it also is known for hosting MMA matches, its comedy club, numerous clubs/lounges and live entertainment (Chicago, Robin Williams, etc.). Not saying that Vegas spots dont do the same, but Hard Rock is trying to get those individuals that dont want to go to South Beach to come there instead.

I have been to Vegas 10 times and I love the Hard Rock. I am not a big drinker so I don't really care how much the drinks cost. The Council Oak is my favorite restaurant. It is not in a bad part of town, just moderate income, not scary at all. My advise is to get a cab, pay what it costs, have a great time and don't listen to these people.

traveler - why is your opinion more valid than anyone elses, you've done Vegas 10 times - so that makes you a Vegas virgin IMO. You like the Seminole Hard Rock Casino and that's fine, you are entitled to your opinion but don't disrespect the opinions of others. I don't think anyone was saying anything against the Hard Rock, Hollywood they were just trying to draw comparisons and give the OP the heads up.

Everything was negative. Words like avoid, too expensive, bad neighborhood. My opinionion is more valuable simply because it was positive and we need more of that. So there.
