Best Area to Stay?

Will be in the Ft Lauderdale area in early December. What area would be best to stay in if we’re looking to be close to or on the beach and within walking/short driving distance of some restaurants and night life? Should we stay in Ft Lauderdale or one of the nearby areas such as Boca Raton, Pompano Beach or other?

Ft. Lauderdale- really not much except condos in Boca's beach area and Pompano is a bit run down along the beach and going through urban renewal. Deerfield Beach and Lauderdale by the Sea are two small beach village type towns in the area you might consider too- very friendly, nice beaches and several restaurants within an easy walk. Not as much night life as Ft. Lauderdale though.

Delray Beach, just north of Boca would be another good option for beach, dining and some night life.

Thanks for the info. We don't need a lot of night life. Maybe just somewhere to walk for a casual drink. I'll check into these areas.

For Ft Lauderdale, would the Ft Lauderdale beach area be the best area?

I would stay in the Fort Lauderdale beach area if it were me. Plenty of restaurants within walking distance and you have the added value of the water taxi to take you to Las Olas Blvd. (our "downtown"), the Galleria Mall (where you'll also find a variety of really good restaurants), and other points of interest.

Check out sunny.org for some ideas of what to do and things to expect during your trip!

Also, look at Sunny Isles Beach known as Florida's Riviera, 10 miles south of Fort Lauderdale airport. It was selected as number one travel destination in all of US by this site . All the hotels are beach front and shopping and restaurants across the street.
