Nightlife in Fort Lauderdale

Hi my boyfriend and I will be in Miami memorial wknd. Our hotel is close to MIA airport we had planned to drive to south beach at night to experience the nightlife. Unfortunately it turns out it's urban week and from what we heard, it's pretty crazy in SoBe that wknd. So we want to find other nightclub/bars in other areas (fort Lauderdale, Hollywood, coral gables, etc...) since we love to dance. We'll have a car and We are both 30 and we open to all sorts of music. Can anyone give me suggestions on where to go in fort Lauderdale or Miami surroundings?

I think I'd go up to Hard Rock Casino in Hollywood. Their Paradise section is full of restaurants and clubs and should be lively for Memorial Day. You are wise to stay away from South Beach at that time..

Try the listings in South Florida New Times. They describe the vibes in the various clubs. Call the clubs first, however, because in the past I've noticed the listings may not be up to date.

I think the two other major nightlife possibilities ( because I concur that Christopher's is a definite no these days) would be the Ft. Lauderdale Beach strip ( mainly casual spots, with music, but W has a "Living Room " that should be more upscale - I just haven't been there in many moons to see what is lively).- and then Himmarshee Village - a street in the Downtown Riverwalk area ( but not directly on the River) with many small bars and clubs which attracts locals- especially on weekends.. I am just not sure if their main demographic is really 30 somethings or 20 somethings, but I am zipping off a an e-mail to our youngest DE, Audreybella, who knows where those age groups go- hopefully she'll either post here or give me a few comments to pass on . It is so true that popularity of these places change quickly sometimes, so I need to be sure my thoughts are not passe.

Not sure if this is completely up to date, but here is a general overview of Himmarshee Village while we wait for some input from DE Audrey

"Vibe" on Las Olas Blvd. and the Whiskey Blue nightclub at the W Hotel on the beach both attract guests in your age group:

If you like music check out Revolution to see what concerts are going on while you're in the area: http://www.jointherevolution.net/. Also America's Backyard, which is around the corner, plays music and has dancing. There's not a whole lot going on in the Ft. Lauderdale area for clubs like there used to be. There are plety of bars that might have some live music though if you want to go that route.
