What to do Post Cruise

We are hiring a car post cruise in Fort Lauderdale and have 5 days roughly before we fly home from Miami. Not sure whether we should do Keys or go opposite direction to Palm Beach etc. We have been to Naples before which we liked and have been to Miami. We may or may not stay our last night there or alternatively we will just return the car to Miami Airport. Any suggestions of what we should do on these days would be appreciated. We like a bit of everything, sightseeing, lazing about, people watching. Also like nice food, wine etc.

What time of year will you be traveling ? Most folks will choose the Keys over Palm Beach. Whats your budget ? Things can get expensive in the Keys.

I'd choose Key West personally.

Unless you're into snorkeling, fishing and going to bed early, I'd just drive straight to Key West. That's where it all happens, yes it's expensive but worth it IMO, you need a few days to really get in tune with the place. Parking is a pain and you probably won't use your car once you get there. We haven't been for years but used to use either Best Wester Hibiscus, Blue Marlin or Southernmost Motel because they have car parks and didn't used to charge for parking. Lulutoo is a Best Western Hibiscus customer and will have more up to date info than I can provide.

As far as I know Sue, Free parking is still the norm at all the KW places you mention in your post . The ones where parking is a concern are the high rise or luxury hotels like Westin that charge to park and /or the small B&B type inns which often have very limited parking at their properties and if they have too many guests with cars , some are left to try and find on street/metered parking nearby or have to pay for a lot. We prefer the motels like BW Hibiscus for that reason- as quaint as the B&B's are , they can become complicated IMO Many people using a rental to get to KW try to find a rental company with a branch in Key West ( not all are) , rent 2 separate one way rentals and drop off the car on arrival, picking up a new rental few days later when they leave , so not having to pay for the days they are in Key West or worry about parking it. That works fine in most cases as you can pretty much walk to all the important places or take a short taxi ride. Exception may be if you are staying out along the Roosevelt Blvd Hwy on the outskirts- but IMO that is not a good idea anyway- most are not very nice.

Otherwise, 2 one way rentals are usually a good plan. .The car rentals are generally out by KW Airport , a short taxi ride from Old Town.

The OP is a Brit, Lulu, he/she would probably get a better deal insurance wise and price wise by just having the car for the whole time and parking for free at a motel with its own free car park, that's what we used to find.
