Is there Red Tide at Ft Myers Beach ?

My family is staying at the Pink Shell the first week of December. I've read the Red Tide is bad in some areas of Lee and Collier County. Is Red Tide bad at FtMyers Beach right now? thank You!

There is no red tide on FMB or at the Pink Shell, nor is there a threat of one at this time.

From what I can see, the worst in the immediate area is the lighthouse beach area on Sanibel. Concentrations were at that level when I was at Palm Bay resort in October and we were still able to use the beach (but there were dead fish).

But from the map, the concentrations in FMB are very low and should not present a problem at this time IMHO.

I agree, we have not received any news postings in over a month or so, because of the results you posted. I have not noticed a difference in the water or air conditions and I'm on the beach almost daily.

Thank you all so much. We are coming to visit either way. We just wanted to know if we should plan other "non-beach"activiites. I saw a news report today that Red Tide was causing dead fish to wash up on Estero Bay. If Red Tide is effecting Estero Bay, isn't that close enough to effect the nortern portions of FMB? Thanks again for your input!

Dead fish on the beach can make for an unpleaseant pong. So avoid the beach areas most affected.

Our Rooms Director is looking into this for you. He is also walking the beach daily to ensure nothing further has come our way on Fort Myers Beach.

We are also coming in this weekend for a stay at Diamondhead Resort. This may sound like a dumb question, but can someone please explain what a "red tide" is? Is it dangerous to be in the water? I have honestly never heard of this before.

Thanks in advance for any information!

Consult the links we gave you? Not hard to click.

It is an algae bloom called Karesthenia Brevis. Hence the nickname.

If you consult the FAQs it will describe the human and animal effects but to be quick it those who are allergic/asthmatic who are most affected.
