Which Island to stay?

We are road tripping from Illinois the first week of September down to the Keys.

Id like to see as much as possible but also like to be far enough away from the crowds.

Which island would you all recommend staying on?

Check out this forum, there are 3 major islands besides Key West. Its only 100 miles of islands so no problem seeing everything. Look at Marathon or Islamorada as they are the 2 central / middle keys areas. Do some research on this forum, there is a lot of great info here.

I would also suggest staying somewhere in the middle keys, from Islamorada to Marathon. If you like being near restaurants, shopping, and people, you should stay in Islamorada or Marathon. If you like peace and quiet and very few people around, go for the area between the two. Enjoy!:)

We rented a cottage on Conch Key in the middle keys. No crowds there but easy driving to all the fun. It's a very small key so maybe not for everyone but we were very happy with it.
