Good advice already. Add visits to wildlife focussed places like the wild bird center and Dolphin places.

Visit Key Lago Fisheries. Watch to boats come in, buy some fresh conch salad, smoked fish dip, lobster, fish. Have lunch on the back porch at their yummy take out window. Go to Mrs Mac's Kitchen, Snapper's, Bayside Grill or one of the other great local spots. Do you like fishing? Charter Soz or Fin Razr and catch the big ones or just go out on a headboat. Snorkel Pennekamp Park, Visit the Wild Bird Center. Take a day trip down to Marathon and stop along the way....walk over the old 7 mile bridge to Pigeon Key.......

Have a slice of delicious key lime pie (no visit to florida keys is complete without this) at Mrs Mac's Kitchen - an ideal place, on your way onto of off from, the Keys. There is a full menu, but we just stopped for a snack. The amosphere is really nice - they have light-shades made of car number plates and very unusual thematic toilets - sorry bathrooms if you are American!

Chilling out…KL is a "drinking village with a fishing problem". Jimmy's for happy hour and we tried most of the restaurants which had great atmospheres. The fish market has some of the freshest fish and killer key lime pie. Everyone there was on holiday and really friendly.
