fishing charter

Hey everyone,

My girlfriend and I were discussing our up and coming trip to key west and low and behold she brought up going fishing, I would have never guessed that she would have brought it up

so I am looking for any advise on a good guide or charter. I myself am more a freshwater man, mostly pike the usual large and small mouth bass etc.

Thanks again for any advise

If you search this forum for "fishing", you will come across some advice given by KWTaxi on where to go to hook up with a Captain. I think that's your best bet since it's short notice.

They also have party boat fishing, but I don't know too much about it.

I have never fished with this guy, I just know he does charters out of Key West.http://www.fishandy.com/

If you want to drive up to Marathon, fish with Marty and Jamie on The Main Attraction. They are an awsome team to fish with. http://www.mainattraction.org/

Then again some more info would be good.

Do you want backwater fishing, reef fishing, or off shore fishing? It makes a difference in who gets suggested.

I'm pretty sure Andy's Stephanie fleet is for Tortugas multi-day fishing. Here is my re-hashed but accurate advice:

This is my response from a similar question earlier:

The day before you want to fish, go sit at Captain Runaground's Floating Restaurant and order a beer at around 4:15pm. Then watch the charter boats come in from fishing. Take your beer and stroll the sidewalk behind the boats and see what they've caught--they will hang their fish up. Ask the customers if they enjoyed the trip, and when you're satisfied, book your seats with the captain of the boat. They all cost the same. Some boats have AC--look for an enclosed cabin with doors and dark glass.

You'll leave a deposit with the captain and fish the next day. Full days beat the heck out of half days--it's an hour each way travel time.

Andy Griffith is terrific.

I also recommend Rick Majer's Flats Fever for (naturally) flats fishing.

And my good friend Robbie Nevius just had an 8-page spread in Saltwater Sportsman. (May 2008 - "Young Guns" article.) He's AMAZING!
