Don't stay at the Southernmost house

Yes that beautiful pink mansion at the end of Duval St,...maybe I expect too much,..but that $400 a night guest house with just 11 rooms seemed worth the price because of the view and the appearent peace and quiet,..up until 11 am or so,..thats when the mansion allows people who pay the $10 to visit this historic mansion to use the pool,...let me repeat that louder for the cheap seats,..USE THE POOL,..after 11 it turns into a frat house pool party,..with the pool area crowded with people who are NOT staying there,...when i complained to the manager his reply was,..yes we have recieved complaints from our guests, thats why we raised the price of a visit from 5 to 10 dollars,.it cut down on people using our pool by 50%.I almost fell over,..are you kidding me?,..what kind of hotel allows people off the street to use thier pool,...so my advice is to stay at one of the nearby $100 a night flop houses and swim at the Southernmost houses pool...I'm telling anyone interested in visiting beautiful key west,..DON'T STAY THERE...

STR, this is your first post. I can understand your gripe, but what did you like about KW? What do you reccomend seeing/doing? How about a little trip report? First time posters that slam an establishment or give it accolades can be suspect. It's appreciated you took the time to post your warning, but how was the rest of your trip?

I understand what Sarge is saying here... I often wondered about that myself. If I had stayed at one of those places and paid what they ask, I wouldn't think i'd have to share with every Tom, Dick and Harry who had ten bucks.

I'm sure he'll post on some good things as well. But I don't think we should get on people for reporting a negative experience.

I agree with Keysgirl. Lets hear some more of your trip. I am sure there were some good things. I am sorry about your experience at the guest house but I would suggest doing a review for them in the hotel/B&B section. Your review here will just get lost as the days go on.

I agree that this would be better in a trip report or hotel review. I will say that I heard the same complaint at work from a couple who were visiting recently.

I can understand this. It occassionally happens at the Pier House. If there are several loud people in the pool half the rooms at the hotel can hear them and be annoyed. There should be some posted closing time for pools at hotels and maybe B&B's. IMO 2:00 a.m. is plenty late. People have said that they are paying for the use of the hotel and so should be able to stay in the pool as much as they want. But other people are paying for the use of a room and a bed and should be able to sleep at least part of the night.

(Do you know my cousin, Pat Pezzicola?)

I agree pjk, drunk adults can be worse than kids in the pool. 2am is plenty late. I party hard in KW, and I need my sleep too!

I also agree with Sarge. During a recent trip, we took a tour of the grounds at the Southernmost House, because I am fascinated with architecture, and this house had some great stuff! We were actually considering a stay there despite their stiff prices, but once I heard that for $10.00 anyone could come in and use the pool, I nixed that idea immediately. I am paying for the amenities and should not have to share them with just any old body who happens to have a spare "dime" on them. It is beautiful, though.....
