Okay, here's some more yummies...
Banana Cafe... down near the Southernmost Hotel. Went there once for breakfast. Tom had the banana and nutella crepe and I had a bacon, egg and cheese crepe. Very interesting to have that in a crepe. It was so different and very good. We got there when it opened at 8:00 because that was the morning we went kayaking. We were the only ones in there for most of the meal. OH... I don't know what was up with the music. Hard to explain. Very disturbing, monotone, "dark"... weird. Like I said, hard to explain... if someone can help me out with this one.
Coffee Plantation (internet cafe and coffee house)... stopped in there because we were very thirsty and very hot. Had been through the cemetery. This place is on Caroline Street. The woman in there was very nice and welcoming. You get a free hour of internet use with a purchase (with your own laptop). We both had an iced tropical machiato which was espresso, coconut milk, and vanilla. Very good.
Conch Republic Seafood Co... only to meet up with some great TA people! Met Seabus and his wife, Cruisemom2 and her husband, KWdreamun and his wife, and KeyLimey. There were a couple others mixed in there as well. Great group of people! Had my vacation drink of Mango Madras (2 of them).
After leaving the CTH, went to Blue Heaven for dinner by 8pm. What a neat place. We only had to wait about 15 minutes. Went into their gift shop for a couple minutes and visited with a very old cat on the porch who really didn't want to be bothered. Tom had the yellow snapper special and I had the Caribbean shrimp dish. Both very good. Enjoyed the guitar player.
B.O.'s fish wagon for the grouper sandwiches per recommendation and some beer. What a great place! We sat with the "guy in the truck" :) Lots of character. I just enjoyed looking around.
Louie's Backyard... I'll start with the negative which has nothing to do with the restaurant itself and say that we went there because my husband wanted something different for dessert other than ice cream (I know, I don't understand him either!) We walked in not knowing they really didn't have much in the way of desserts. Sat upstairs outside and had coffee and the chocolate fondue. Not what I was looking for and was just okay. HOWEVER... what a great place for a romantic dinner and also their downstairs outside deck and bar looked fabulous! Great place to meet up for some drinks. Our waiter was terrific and figured out it wasn't what we were looking for even though we made the best of it. He suggested the "Better Than Sex" dessert Restaurant for future reference. I was disappointed I hadn't remembered that or hadn't made note of that if I did read about it.
Sarabeth's... what a wonderful little place. They have an outside sitting area but it was already quite warm at 10 AM and we didn't know what kind of a breeze we'd have so we opted to sit inside. Very cute and intimate. Tom had the shrimp and bacon omelette and I had the Lemon Ricotta Pancakes (both per recommendations). Also had the Four Flowers juice. Oh, and a side of bacon. All very good. Wasn't sure I'd like the Lemon in the pancakes but was just a hint and yummy.
Almost last, but not least, is Croissants de France. Anything more to say? Yummo! Went there twice. First time we sat in the seats overlooking the street. Drank OJ and shared a raspberry beignet and a coconut creme croissant. Huge and wow and highly recommend. The second time we were there were going to do the same thing but the girl behind the counter said they have a restaurant right on the side and did we want to do that instead. Not sure of her reasons, although there were only 2 seats left on the porch. I didn't know there was a restaurant... but I'm sure glad we decided to take her suggestion! Very beautiful back there. Hubby had another croissant but I ended up getting a crepe with fried bananas, toasted almonds and a light rum sauce inside...TO DIE FOR!!
On our way out and back to the airport on Sunday, we went to Lor-E-Lei in Islamorada. Another wonderful outdoor seating with great views. Watched as a Pelican perched in one of the trees. Tom had a fish sandwich with the wonderful potato crisps. His was very good. I wasn't feeling well that day (besides the fact that we were leaving after a wonderful week) and I just ordered a salad. I rarely complain about anything but the whole salad was brown. A couple pieces, okay, but this was the whole thing. I picked at it a little, but didn't really eat much. Luckily it wasn't a big deal to me... I wasn't feeling well anyway.
Well, so ends the eating Parts 2 and 3. I will write again with other thoughts :)
