I forgot to mention where we ate on our first day (Tues.) for lunch we went to the Courthouse Deli (because it was right around the corner a block and a half away from the Angelina) for cuban mix sandwiches that came w/ a sml. bag of chips, and a med. fountain drink of choice for about $8 and change a piece. Not bad for a lunch to eat poolside. For dinner we went to Blue Heaven and split the Yellowtail Snapper dish and the scallop appetizer that was melt in your mouth delicious! The scallops were HUGE!
Thurs. Biked to the Southernmost Bouy and took pics, then onto South Beach. We rented an umbrella and 2 lounge chairs (which by the way were half price that day! We just lucked out) and man, was it HOT that day! We had a guy come around and bring us frozen towels to cool off with and complimentry ice pops. Very much needed! Believe me! The only disappointment was going into the water. The ocean was like going into a hot bathtub! I was cooler on the beach!Later that night, (I had made reservations earlier that day from the Angelina with a note to make it special for my daughter's graduation)we went to Sunset Key for dinner. We got all dressed up (island style. We looked like we were in Hawaii!)We boarded the ferry that takes you out there, and when we arrived at the dock a concierge somehow picked my daughter right out and said, "Hi, (her name here) welcome to Sunset Key! We heard you just had a graduation recently!" Well...she was floored! A very nice intro! And she was so surprised! He escorted her down the dock to Lattides Cafe and when we sat down at our table the server came over and repeated the same, calling her by her name and personalizing her experience. Very nicely done.We had front row viewing to the sunset, and the atmosphere couldn't have been better! The food presentation was first class, as well as the timing. We ordered mango coladas to start, then were given fresh baked bread w/ 2 different types of butter balls (one was a sweet citrus, and the other was a garlic herb) Delicious!!We then ordered the shrimp bacon wrapped citrus appetizer. Yummy! And both had the scallop dinner. Wonderful! We finished our meal w/ the creme brulee trio (3 different flavor samplers: vanilla, coffee, and amaretto) and 2 cappacinos. Excellent! Our total bill was around $107, but worth every penny since the experince of food and service was impecable! A definite "MUST-DO"if you're planning on one "special" unique thing to do while here. Especially if looking for the "perfect" romance spot.
Fri. Breakfast (as usual each morning) Then around 1:30 headed down to Casa Marina for our couples "side-by-side" on the beach massage. Perfect setting! A tiki-type hut on the beach w/ the 2 massage tables next to eachother. We had 2 women as our massage therapists. They were so good, and the sound of waves were so relaxing, that we both fell asleep, and had to be woken up like babies coming out of a deep slumber!Perfect tranquility! After that we walked over to El Siboney for the breaded grouper dish that we split, w/ 2 cafe con leches to go. Stopped off at a store to buy a postcard to mail back home, and took a walk down Duval St. for some shopping. I'm not a tattoo person, but decided to get a henna "tramp-stamp" just for kicks and giggles.
(It was mostly to "ha ha" my husband when I got home.
Wink :) Kind of a pain in the !@#, since I had to wait around an hour for it to dry, and I had to walk around town w/ my skirt rolled down worrying about if the crack of my !@# was showing or not. But hey..it's Key West. No one cared.Forgot (again) to mention where we had lunch on Thurs. We got a wrap sand. from Lobo's and took it to South Beach. GOOD wraps! This night (Fri.)we ate at the Hard Rock cafe and split a Haystack Chicken Salad. Very tasty!
Sat. Did some shopping, lazed around by the pool, and went to Mangia Mangia for dinner on Southard and Margaret Sts. We both had the Scallop Fellucine, if we would've known how BIG the portions were, we definitely would've only got one and split it. The sauce was to die for!!! LOVED it! We took our leftovers back to the room and had them for lunch the next day. Mallory Square again for sunset...
Sun. Went to Croissants de France for breakfast. We both had the Americano which I've had many times before because I love the side sauce it comes with. But the sauce wasn't at tasty as I've had before. It tasted "watered down" or something.Shopping...pool...cuban mix sands. from Courthouse Deli (again)...went to Mallory Square and the Disney Magic cruiseship was docked by the Westin.
Took a pic w/ my buddy Wil Soto (the tight rope walker) and just enjoyed the sounds, smells, and atmosphere...went to eat later at Caroline's on Duval St. Not impressed at all. We split a shrimp ceasar salad that was nothing to write home about. The shrimp (for Key West) were smaller than I expected.Later that night we decided to go to "Better Than Sex" dessert restaurant on Petronia St.(right off Duval St. across the street from the 801 Bourbon St. Bar)LOVED IT!!! When you walk in, it has a "morracan feel" to it. Dimly lit tealights, exotic, romantic, etc. The desserts are excellent and so are the names! Wink :) The best part was they have these trivia sex/date questions card games at each table that make for a fun coversation time! I definely recommend this place for a "girls' night out" or date night. We also had a coupon for 10% off our bill.Great ending to our day!
Mon. Chilled out till it was time to go parasailing. We went out around 3:30 because there were some storm clouds hanging around. So after they passed, we had great weather. HOT, though! We went out with Sunset Watersports since they were the cheapest. The guys were great that took us out, and since it was just me and my daughter on the boat, they dipped us 3 times! Excellent ride!
Tues. Chilled out by the pool till it was time to get the taxi to the airport. One week was PLENTY of time to do what what we wanted w/ time for "down time"..so this vacation worked out perfectly.Even w/ the heat in the day, we paced ourselves and "vacated" from the hurried pace of "everday life". And isn't that what it's all about???
