First Fantasy Fest... Advice?

We are headed to KW in October and discovered we will be there for FF. What advice do the pros offer? What should we do... Avoid... And consider.

If you are going there on purpose because it is FF then there is lots to do however if you are just hitting it by accident you may want to consider a different week. We love Fantasy Fest but it isn't for everyone and it really takes over the town that week.

What days of the week will you be there?

We are ok with the fact that it will be FF. We will be there from 10/19 to 10/28

It's a lot more fun if you participate, wear costumes, get painted. march in the Friday masquerade march.

Expect to pay more for most everything, it is one of the busiest weeks of the year so expect to wait more at bars and restaurants.

We went for five years in a row, last year we were down for Meeting of the minds and this year we are going for the power boat races, Might be down for FF again next year.

Keep an open mind. You will probably see things you've never seen before, at least in public on a main street. As mentioned, expect waits for most things. The only part I didn't like was on Saturday night during the parade-too many people in too-small an area. Other than that, it was fun to do.

I guess you already booked a hotel; if not, do it soon. We went last year for the first time and had so much fun will be there again this year. We met a couple from Naples who have been there several times, so we got some good info. Monday night is at Kelly's. You have to be in costume to get in. My wife wore a bra and garter set from Hustler, and she had on more than most. On Tuesday alot of people wear plaid, also there is a great cowboy and indian party at Cowboy Bill's. This year we're going to be plaid indians!

Wednesday everybody wears red. Thursday is toga night, and Dante's pool party during the day. Friday most do pirate or pimp and ho; we're doing something different. And Saturday is the parade. Of course you can dress up as you please, but one requirement is you have fun. See ya there!

Larry - When we were last there in 09 they can get steep unless you rent a place witha kitchen area to cut down on meals, but you must consider it is vacation and what do you go on vacation for (cooking and cleaning dishes are not the top for me).

Cris and Lou - We are making tenative plans to be at FF this year, you 2 going?

Lodging is very expensive, but after that you can cut corners or spend as much as you have! Places along sidewalk of Duval will have $2 ice cold beers,CVS has snacks cheaply priced, and Happy Hour still works. Some B&Bs serve a breakfast and have a Happy Hour with snacks included. Ours (Curry Mansion) serves a big, cooked breakfast and a poolside HH with music and finger food.

As above, the lodging prices are the highest as it is the largest festival of the year. You can choose to eat as cheaply or as lavishly as you would like.

It's fun to see, but even more fun to participate. You can dip a toe, or jump in with both feet. We find the earlier part of the week to be more enjoyable as the final Friday and Saturday to be jam packed with weekenders who just want to take pictures of the women.

Brian - not this year. We were down to KW in March, going to OBX in July and Tennessee in October (both on the bike), and we rented a house on Grand Cayman for 8 days in early November.
