I'm having trouble sifting through the rentals to find one that has beach access. It doesn't have have a direct view of the ocean but something that has an access path would be great. Only needs to sleep 2-4 people max.

There are no access paths to the beach like other beach communities you may be familiar with. Our beaches for the most part are public and we are a small island "city" if you will. Look for rentals within a short walk to smathers, higgs, south or Ft Zach Taylor beaches. This should help your search.
The condos at 1800 Atlantic have direct beach access. It is not the greatest beach, but none of our beaches are that good.
Try www.homeaway.com/vacation-rental/p311616 I stayed there with my husband in February 2011 and loved it!! It is right next to Louie's Backyard. While it is a little ways from Duval and the bar area, it is only a $5 cab ride at night and during the day the trolley has a stop only 1 1/2 blocks away.
Edited: 16 August 2012, 19:46If your perfect vacation is spending all day on the beach, then hitting the bars, don't bother with Key West. Do Myrtle Beach or Ocean City, MD, or any number of more suitable beaches
There is so much MORE to Key West than laying on the sand. Heck, they don't even clean up the seaweed regularly in Key West. ;)
