Misc. Questions

Thanks again everybody, for all your input. We're going to dinner tonight to decide if we should just drive down. We are definitely driving back for reason of checkout date (19th) & flight out (20th). Plus, I would like to stop in Hollywood to visit, (actually, pay respects) to my Grandparents Niche'. I do not want to make that stop on the way down, basically for " I want to get started relaxing asap". I have a few more Q's though. 1st: Are the eticket deals online better than the coupon books @ airports & around Island. 2nd: your expert advice on the perfect places to watch, (w/ drink in hand) the wonderful sunsets? I guess a few places for the start of the day w/ sunrise would be great also. Thank you again for all your help. Unfortunetly, I doubt these will be my last inquiries.

With regards to your first question, the answer is sometimes and sometimes. It's really a crap shoot as to whether eticket saves more money than coupons given out on KW. The Key West Passports that Historic Tours of America sell are a good deal if and only if you plan on visiting most of the attractions offered.

Best place to have a drink and watch the sunset is on a sunset cruise. The Western Union schooner used to have the best one, but I understand that it no longer operated. The Liberty Schooner is a very nice sailing ship for a sunset cruise. Mallory Square, Schooner Warf Bar, Turtle Kralls are also great fun at sunset.

I would add from the wall at Fort Zach to sunset spots. We go there at least one evening out of our annual week with a picnic. A great view and no more that a dozen people.

If you are looking to book anything on the water (fishing, snorkeling, sunset cruise etc), I would wait until you get there and use a coupon out of a tourist guide book. By waiting you can make sure you get the best day for the water activities. I would be bummed out if I pre-booked a sunset cruise and it was cloudy for the day I paied for.

Sunset: Mallory Square for sure, at Mallory Square dock look for the Sunset Margaritas building. They have a wide selection of tropical frozen drinks that come in a plastic sand bucket (40oz give or take a few oz.). There kind of expensive 15.00 but should hold you well into the sunset celebration.

Sunrise Smathers Beach never have made it to a sunrise though you'll have to post and let me know what it was like.

Have fun

The sunrise from Smathers Beach is very nice but there seems always to be a cloud cover due east so you are really seeing a sunrise + about 30 minutes. There is a superstition that if you can see the seaplanes of Key West heading out from east to west at 8:00, the earliest flight, then you will have good luck and good weather for that day. Sunrise from the Pier House over the Hyatt is very nice.

I's been my expirience that the coupons you find on line or in the See Key West Magazine are duplicated if you pre-book at least a day in advance. And you pass the kiosks for the Caribbean Spirit, Sebago, Fury, etc at the Bight where you might be having breakfast or happy hour, so if the forecast is good for the next day, take advantage. Discounts are usually $5.00 / person (two margueritas at Kelly's) or 5 or 10 % off for the Fury. I don't think I've ever seen a coupon or a discount for the Floridays.
