Snorkeling

Hello --

Heading to the Keys for our first trip and staying "central" in Marathon. We are a family of four and BIG snorkelers, having been to Cozumel, Belize, Grand Cayman, etc. All of these places offer "walk out" snorkeling that you can find yourself either via a beach bar or public beach access. Are there any places in the Keys that offer locations where we can park and snorkel or do we need to take a charter? Thanks.

Your best bet is to take a charter, not many if any walk out places.

You can park and 'walk out' at John Pennekamp and Bahia Honda parks, for example, but it's best to take a charter boat.

JP has a snorkelling area right in front of the parking lot, but it in no way compares to the reefs which are around 5 miles off shore.

Thanks! Will book a charter or two. Would you recommend one from JP and another from Key West? We want to make sure and hit the hot spots!

If you are staying in Marathon - why not go to the Marathon reefs? They are beautiful.
