Bars for Oldsters (Like 60+)

Hi there

I know that the Village Pump and Aruba has all ages, especially on te weekends, but where do the Non-Kids hang out? You know, a reasonably priced comfortable bar where people come because there either is a great happy hour (2 for 1) or some kind of special. Any clues? Or maybe live music?

Stinger's, about a mile or so up the road in Pompano Beach, has a slightly older crowd.

Or if you can come down A1A a bit to 33rd St on the Galt west of A1A , Blue Jean Blues is where you will find fellow older music lovers. The #11 bus runs right down if you don't wish to drive- cactch it heading south in front of De Gennaro's if I recall- andDe G's bar is an older hang out with music on some nights too.

Both Quartedecks attracts yachties so all ages from young deckhands to older captains. Same at Waxy O'Connors although on week ends the crowd is more late 30's to early 40"s and very noisy. If you think that you will fit in such an invironment that's fine. If you are open minded and just want to have fun a gay restaurant with a piano bar etc, in Wilton Manors, Tropics attract an older clientele and women too.

Rick,

I looked at reviews of Tropics and it looks like it would be a great place for brunch and yes (!) I am open-minded... lol Gay bars are a hoot. And if there's good food and strong drinks (according to the reviews) all to the good.

Lulu, I looked up Blue Jean Blues and it looks fabulous on line. On Feb. 14 (Valentine's Day) they are having a live Motown show, and I plan to go -- even if it will (probably) be all couples.... Good music and especially good LIVE MUSIC and Motown to boot, yay! I'm there. I'd ask you to join me, but I saw somewhere that you are headed to Vegas... Win a jackpot for me, will ya?

GO! and sit at the bar at Blue Jeans- I think you'll have fun! there's also usually music just across 33rd at at the 33rd St Wine Bar- many of my friends who are single ladies of that vintage hang out there too.

I'm on a gambling roll these days- having just won 3600 nickels at the Hard Rock Casino here ( big whoop!) so the pressure is on to break the bank in Vegas! I am representing all our local DE's at the roulette table and we have hit a number straight on before for them- hoping for a repeat... John and I will be in Vegas celebrating an anniversary, otherwise we would both come over to Blue Jeans and join you- matter of fact I was just there Sat. am for their ( plated) Jazz Brunch. Music is from 10 am -1 every Sat and Sunday. Its a great place!

Hi All,

Here it is a year later (and I'm a year older!) and I'm coming down again.

Lulu, last year I went to Blue Jean Blues twice and enjoyed myself tremendously. Dragged my hubby there too and he liked it also. Especially the dancing. So, I know a lot changes in a year in the bar scene, so how much has changed? Are there any good what I call Geezer-friendly places still around? I love live music at night - almost any kind except rap, so I'd be up for any suggestions anyone might have for some nice live music nightlife, but those places are sometimes hard to find. I'll be there Feb. 11 thru the 17th. A week goes so fast dang it. I hear there is some great entertainment, and big names at the casinos... maybe that's why you go, except for winning all those nickels, of course. Might have to try to the Hard Rock, but that might be a whole 'nother post. Thanks for any and all suggestions.

BJB is as good as ever- just around the corner and up A1A you would probably love the upstairs at Nicks Italian if you want to put those dancing shoes on. I haven't been to the Sly Fox in ages but that used to be a great geezer hangout- not sure what they do about music these days though- I'll check it out!

You do know that they have a street dance every Saturday night outside Aruba Beach cafe and usually something on Friday night as well sponsored by 101 Ocean??

Come on down! I'm a Fall Riverite by birth- could you stop by if you are in that area and get me a few of Hartley's pork pies??? We took a cruise out of Boston in October- I really got no further than Legal Seafood at Logan though- wish I could have headed to the No Name for fish chowder- is it still in business?

Not as much entertainment at Sly Fox these days, but a little - and it's generally a friendly hangout for condo commandos

Now St. Pat's Day there is a classic- just ask our DE Sue from the UK- they particiated in the famous Irish Wake there- so maybe you should come back in March as well

Oh and the weekend Jazz Brunch at Blue Jean Blues is now Sundays only and starts at 10 am- the jazz is good and so are the brunch dishes.
