Longboat Key Club April Vacation

First time trip to Longboat Key Club on a family vacation with 2 teenagers. We have been a frequent visitor to Captiva's South Seas Resort before the hurrican damage. How do they compare?

Any local knowledge pre trip is greatly appreciated.

Local grocery shopping ?

Advice on golf , any nearby golf ,beside resort course?

Local restaurant recommendation?

Are there amenities on the beach & pool, drinks , food , lounge chairs , umbrellas cabanas , etc?

Is there internet service in the rooms?

Thanks!

Longboat and South Seas are both quality places, though a bit different. You'll be in more of a high-rise at Longboat and closer to off-resort activities. The beaches are similar, though Captiva has more shells.

For golf, Longboat's course is excellent and better than South Seas. No other courses nearby.

Local grocery shopping is at Publix (major chain), either about 4 miles up Longboat or about 4 miles back into Sarasota on North Tamiami Trail.

No cabanas on the beach or food, but chairs, etc. are at the pool.

As for restaurants, there are a huge number on Longboat and on nearby St. Armand's Circle, as well as in downtown Sarasota. What kind of food do you like? Also, what other interests do you have -- biking, kayaking, fishing, boating -- there's lots to choose from!

I have been to LBK Club a number of times -- have not been Captiva resort so I cannot comment on that. As for what's available at Club, there are always chairs available on beach. I have been there when bar/restaurant service was also available on the beach. It depends on when you go. You can also rent kayaks and hobie cats on beach. The kayaks are easy to maneuver in the Gulf on most days. There is internet service in the room -- you use the TV with attached keyboard to do this. Don't know about bringing your own computer and hooking up.

If you want to rent a boat with a motor and tour around the bay (this is lots of fun!) try Cannon's Marina. It is north on LOng Boat Key about 15 minutes from the Club.

The Mote Marine Aquarium is pretty cool -- teenagers might like it. It is very close to the club -- you can ride a bike there.
