Usually dry. Can be chilly, with daily highs in the 60's to 70's. Often a cold front goes thru about once a week, with gradual warming afterwards. Water temps high 60's to low 70's, depedning on air temps. A lot of northerners do go in the water.

Water temps should be in the upper 60's -- call it 66-68. Definitely too chilly for locals to swim, but visitors usually try it out. Almost all pools are heated, though, and as the other post said -- it's almost always dry and sunny.

I'm counting on the weather being infinitely better than the ten inches of snow that fell in Cleveland Friday - Saturday last week. In fact, between the piles of snow and single-digit temperatures forecast for this week plus $178 round trip flight on Continental and $99/nt January Special rate at Silver Sands condo, my husband and I were inspired to end this month with five days on Longboat Key. We 60-somethings don't need to venture into the Gulf. We'll be content with walks on the beach...and driving around in a convertible.

The weather was Chamber of Commerce perfect Jan. 25-29, gloriously sunny and highs in 70s. Rain came our final evening and day of departure.
