Trying to decide

Hi All! Time to start planning the spring vacation. Hubby & I are looking to rent a condo or house, on the beach, for a week. We have never been to Longboat Key or Anna Maria. We have been to Sanibel Island & Siesta Key. We are looking for somewhere that has restaurants/bars on the beach/water, within walking distance. Not terribly quiet, but not crazy like Key West. Also would like shopping close by. Would either of these two places suit us & how do they compare with Sanibel or Siesta Key? We have been up & down south east & west Florida & are looking for somewhere new to stay. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Either of those places will have what you want. Shopping is always a short drive to the mainland if the island itself doesn't have what you need. Include Lido Key with those two - you might like the boutique shops at St. Armands Circle on Lido. Lido is smaller than the other two.

Wherever you choose you'll have a fabulous time.

Lido might be a good one. Not much in the way of house availabilities, but there are some condos and you're definitely close to some activity on St. Armands (and to downtown). Longboat is certainly quieter -- more like the quietness of Sanibel than to the busy-ness of Siesta. Longboat does have some good house rentals, though. It also has some great restaurants, though only a few of them are directly on the water. Anna Maria? Maybe would give you the best shot at an activity level you want plus some places on the water. Maybe post a similar query on the Anna Maria Island forum.

Meanwhile a couple of websites to check out are www.flvacationconnection.com and www.vacationfla.com. Also, budget permitting, consider Longboat Key Club.

LBK Lido and Anna Maria are all very close to each other if you are prepared to use a car. We always stay on LBK but shop and eat in all 3 areas, plus downtown Sarasota too!

If you really have to have restaurants in walking distance then I would say it needs to be Lido or Anna Maria.
