Heading to Marco June 21

Our vacation is now only a week away. We have never been to Marco, staying at the Apollo. We have gathered some great information from this forum.

From what I have read it appears it will not be too crowded on the beach. Will we be sole castaways or can we expect to see some vacationers on our part of the beach?

I am concerned about the bugs and the sting rays. Has the beach been buggy lately. We will have our repelent. When are they the worse?

And what about the sting rays? Do we have to be concerned every time we go in the water? Where do they hang out most, by the shore line? Are they visible?

We arrive Sunday so we will try Stan's that night.

For the rest of the week I have put on the list Stilts, Capt Briens, Capri Fish House, Guy Harveys Grill, Old Marco Crab House, The Dock in Naples.

Besides sitting on the beach we plan a trip to Shark Valley and the Seminole Casino one night.

Any last minute advice?

Thanks,

Tom & Linda

One thought ... if you are off the rock for "The Dock" in Naples consider an extra couple hours for the Naples Pier, Naples Beach, driving down Gordan and Gulfshore looking at homes, and walking 3rd and 5th Street. And take 10 minutes and walk the City Marina at "The Dock" ... the later in the evening the cooler it will be.

You will see other people on the beach.

The bugs will be out at sunrise and sunset. If a breeze is present, you probably will not be bothered at all.

Sting rays nest at water’s edge in summer (shuffle your feet to avoid stepping on them). The sting rays blend in with the sand but are still visible.

My husband and I just returned from Marco on June 6. We stayed at the north end of the beach for a week. On our last day we visited the south end and were on the beach in front of the Apollo. The beach was not deserted at all. We did find the island feeling empty but in a good way. No traffic and we walked right in and sat dowwn immediately at all the restaurants including Verdi's and Arturo's. We loved having lunch at the Sunset Grille's outside beachfront bar in the the Apollo. While we were sitting there we saw a water spout out on the ocean. It was quite a sight. At the beach we experienced no bugs and saw no stingrays.
