I've got reservations in several locations and I need to make a decision for the 3rd week of June. We will be coming down from Orlando after a week long conference and WDW hoopla and will need a relaxing beach vacation. We are from the Pacific NW and our #1 goal is a relaxing beach vacation. My daughter is 18 so hopes for a little fun too.
I am not familiar with any areas south of Tampa. We are down to 2 choices - Marco Island or Fort Myers Beach. We consider Sanibel and I still have a reservation there, but it's 3rd on the list. I want nice soft sand and a swimable beach.
I have a reservation at Marco Beach Ocean Resort ($930) and one at Edison Beach House ($710) in FMB. A bit of a price difference for similar room - gulf front.
We are flying in and out of Orlando and will have a rental car. We choose the gulf side because I've always wanted to stay on the gulf side (and we've been to Daytona and Miami beach before) and we want to explore the everglades a bit and see some alligators.
Since this is the Marco Island Forum I am sure I'll got lots of positive feedback about Marco Island. It does seem very nice, but I would appreciate your thoughts given that I'm looking for a relaxing, sandy soft beach.
Which beach would you all recommend given the above?
Also, concerned about the deepwater horizon oil rig sinking and leaking oil and wondering what effects that will on the florida coastline.
And are mosquitos a big problem in mid June? Aside from bug spray, any advice to keep them away?
