Everglade tour

Finally decided to visit Marco Island. Can you recommend a good tour through the Everglades? Would like to avoid the jet skies ( have 13, 9 and 70 year old with ). Will be there at the end of March. Thanks you for your tips.

There is a Park Rangers' Station a short way before Everglades City with a small but interesting museum, and you can take a boat tour, with commentary by a ranger from there. Great fun as usually, dolphins follow the boat and leap in its wake. If you go right into Everglades City, there is a choice of airboat tours. Once you are on Marco, you'll find plenty of information. Lucky you. Enjoy it.

A couple thoughts:

- I agree with Clare ... there are 2 different Everglades City (EC) ENP tours to choose from ... they do fill up quickly in the busy season ... they are a good value

- kayaking is big is SW FL ... if your 70 year old is outdoorsy ... I would take the group to Rookery Bay and kayak through the mangroves ... this is a good value compared to some outfitters in EC or Choko

- the kids would love the air boats tours in and around EC ... you go through mangrove canals ... the kids would love it

- out fitters from Choko you can do deep Everglades boating or kayak in the 10,000 islands, tends to be expensive

- mud trucks through swamps North of Marco around Naples ... essentially the same as going through the everglades

- boardwalks ... there are about 6 parks with boardwalks on or around Marco through Everglades type vegetation ... very easy for the 70 year old

I do recommend the jet skies ... but if you don't go ... then at least go to Caxambas Pass Park watch the dolphins and boats go by ... there is always a nice breeze ... depending on the time you can watch the jet skies launch.

Shark Valley is a FANTASTIC place to go to see alligators and birds! It is a little over an hour away on Tamiami Trail (East), but is well worth the drive. You can walk into the park or take a tram tour. Immediately across from SV are some of the cheapest airboat tours you'll ever find. Have fun . . . Marco is THE BEST!!

A Marco Island vacation should include some time off the beach:

1) Naples shopping - 5th Avenue ice cream

2) Goodland lunch or dinner

3) Isles of Capri lunch or dinner

4) Drive on 41 through the Everglades

5) See the eagles nest on Tract K or osprey nests on the way off Marco from Goodland

If you want any help with some "Marco Nature" ideas send me an email via TA.
