Property on Galleon Court Marco Island-1st time visitor

Can anyone give us an opinion on Galleon Court? We have seen a house that we quite fancy renting. We can't really tell how far away we are from the beach and whether we can walk to any shops and restaurants. Never been to Marco before, but have been to Sanibel. Is it better to be near the beach or is everything so close it doesnt really matter. The house has a lovely canal at the back, which we think is a plus. are the canals safe to canoe on?

We rented once on Galleon and it was a nice location. Too far to walk to the beach and too far to walk to shops or restaurants. Close drive to the Shops of San Marco with grocery store, some shops and restaurants. There are boats in the canals and we've stayed in many homes on canals but I have to say, never see many, if any, canoes or kayaks in the canals. Maybe because there's too many boats?

We have also rented a property on Galleon Court in the past and agree with the comments above. It is a nice, quiet location, but a drive from pretty much anything/anywhere on the island. Having said that, it is a small island, nothing is more than ~10 mins drive away.

Hi Boltonworker -

a quick and easy way to see where a street is located in relationship to beach, etc is go to google.com - once at the google page you will see a navigation bar at the top of your page with the word MAPS - slick on that and then in the search box type in Lamplighter Ave Marco Island Florida (or any other location) and the map will appear with the street marked.

Regarding canoeing / kayaking the canals -

Looking at Lamplighter as an example - you can see it is a lengthy maize of canals to get out into either Roberts Bay or go thru Caxambas Pass - Not much to see but houses along the way. If you plan on canoeing or kayaking from your rental, you would be better off south of Winterberry Drive and closer to Caxambas Pass to get out into the bays and islands.

If you go to www.cityofmarcoisland.com and click on the "visiting" tab, there is a map of the island there which you may find very helpful.
