Tropical Storm Chantal

We are planning a trip to the Miami/Ft lauderdale area tomorrow and are staying through Sunday. With Chantal headed that way, we are considering canceling our hotel and heading west to the Naples/Ft Myers area. For those of you more familiar with weather like this, should we expect solid rain for most of our trip? Would it be worth our time to try and escape the rain by heading to the gulf coast? I would really appreciate any input! Thanks!

Use your judgement. Naples might have rain also.

The National Hurricane Center's most recent bulletin can be found here:

Look at the maps.

This is a tricky one to answer. You can see the current projection here:

http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/refresh/graphics_at3+shtml/174941.shtml?tswind120#contents

also linked from: http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/

but it's tricky to project 4/5 days out. If you decide to change your plans, it'll probably be safer to head for Tampa or points northwest, such as the panhandle.

Just noticed Chantal is no longer a tropical storm:

Still likely it will cause a rainy weekend in south FL but not much more than that.

You never know what will happen until it gets here. You could cancel, go to Naples and they get all the rain. Unfortunately that's how the weather down here is this time of year when we're about to get a system. The 11pm update is saying that the storm might hit another wave and weaken and we might not get any rain. It's still a guessing game at this point.
