What part to stay??

We are staying in Key West for two nights in April and then 3 nights in Miami. We are unsure what part of Miami to stay in. We have a car so will be out and about most days. We like to stay in nice hotels and need to have a pool so that our 5 year old can have a swim at the end of a day of sight seeing. We have been thinking about south beach but would only stay if we could book somewhere on the ocean front but as we are not there all day and won't make use of beach we thought maybe downtown or similar. What are your thoughts. TIA

Some of this on your budget. South Beach will be a bit more expensive.

Best bet is to give us an idea of your budget or utilize the TA search engine based upon you trip dates and how much you wish to spend... If you have a car, you can stay someplace that is less expensive than an oceanfront resort. Check out the private rentals on vrbo.com at the Mondrian which has an awesome pool deck but is on the quieter west side of South Beach.

Hi am looking about $300 a night maximum. What are your thoughts on staying downtown. can you walk around with a kid to restaurants and the like - is it safe. We are spending time on our trip at some other beaches along the way so thought I might do the city thing here rather than beach. In saying that South Beach looks interesting just really expensive and not sure apart from the beach what there is to do in this area with a kid. As we have a car we were just going to be out and about daily doing the sights and then return to the city for dinner and a swim. So at this point we are spending 2 nights in Key West and 3 in Miami but might change to a 1 & 4 split - thoughts?? If we wanted to head to South Beach for the day would it be easier to bus if we stayed elsewhere rather than try to park somewhere??

The Holiday Inn Downtown is very close to Bayside Marketplace, safe and easy to walk to. South Beach parking can be expensive and busy. southbeach-usa.com/guide/transportation/park…

Id spend the 1 day in Miami and 4 in the Keys, but thats just me. If you stay Downtown you can catch the water taxi from Bayside over to South Beach for the day.
