We are a 2 adult/2 child (11 yo girls) family on a short day and a half stopover in South Beach.
Since our time is so limited, I thought that we would spend our time there walking up and down Collins, Ocean, Lincoln to get a feel for the place and the architecture; maybe sign up for the 90min Miami Ducktours; and spend a few hours on the beach wandering up and down the beach and also having a dip.
Are there any alternative, perhaps more comprehensive, tours that may provide us with a broader sense of what Miami is like as a city? We've never been in Miami and though I usually abhor whirlwind sightseeing we would like to at least get a quick - if imperfect - perspective of the city.
When strolling around South Beach, is there a particular art-deco 'hub' or concentration of buildings that we should aim to see?
At something between a leisurely saunter and a purposeful walk, how long would you estimate it takes to walk along Ocean/Collins from, say, 5th St. to 20th St.?
And lastly, just as eating at a deli is one of those things people 'must do' in NY, what reasonably-priced and typically SoBe eatery could we pop into for meals (breakfast or dinner. When pressed for time we generally don't take time out for a sit-down lunch!)
Thanks in advance to those that offer up advice,
