Walking the beach at night

Is it safe to walk the beach at night? We are staying at the south end of South Beach.

I would avoid the beach (i.e. the sand) after dark. There are many reports of robberies and thefts on the beach at night. If you're in a group it's probably OK, but note the beach is closed to everyone between midnight and 5 AM. The rest of south beach i.e. the streets, shops, restaurants etc are quite safe.

The city has a lovely path running for miles by the water you can explore on a bike, skates or walking & jogging. This is where to sightsee, exercise and enjoy the view safely...

I've actually been by the beach after the club at 4 am, it was quite nice and refreshing(not for a swim though).
