Transport To Naples

I am considering a holiday in Naples but I am not keen on driving while I'm on holiday (I enjoy a drink).

Apart from driving are there any other alternatives to transfer from one of the major airports to Naples and which would be the best airport to fly into for such transfers.

Fly into Ft. Myers (RSW) and get a Taxi to your destination. I would suggest staying at the Inn on 5th, you can stumble up to your room w/o having to get a taxi.

Hi WelshLegend,

There are taxis at the airport which have flat rates to different locations of Naples.

There are also some private car services you can use. My niece used Classic Transportation to and from the airport and they were only 4 dollars more than a taxi and the car was large and comfortable and the drivers were very helpful and friendly. They also meet you right at the luggage carousel.

In general, public transprotation is not that great great in Naples. The bus routes are minimal and not very frequent. Local taxis are very expensive.

The hotel Todday suggested is very nice and extremely convenient if you do not have a car. Other hotel which would keep you within walking distance of downtown Naples are Bellasera which is a short walk to Fifth Avenue South but they also offer a free shuttle to the beach. I believe it drops off at the pier area which is off of Third Street South, another area with great restaurants and shopping. Hotel Escalante is walking distance to the beach and Fifth Avenue South. Bayfront Inn is walking distance to Fifth Avenue South and also has restaurants within the property but no transportation to the beach.

Having been there several times, unless you intend to be constantly paralytic (and I'm not sure Naples is quite the place for that, though I am not averse to a drop myself, so am not preaching !!!) then I reckon you should consider hiring a car for at least some of your stay. Naples is pretty spread out and as previous posters have said, public transport is virtually non-existent.
