Kayack Rentals

Is there a place to rent Kayaks on the water down near Hammock Bay that will let you kayack around down there in the waterways?

Do they have guides that can go with you to keep from getting lost?

Thanks

Rookery Bay has guided kayak tours every Wednesday morning (about 5 minutes from Hammock Bay)

http://www.rookerybay.org/

There is also a Kayak Outfitter on Tamiami Trail that delivers kayaks to several locations - Isles of Capri, Goodland, Gordon River - for tours

www.saltwatersportsflorida.com/rentals.htm

Isle is Capri is close to Hammock Bay - about 5 minutes as you leave Hammock Bay turn left on 951 / Collier Blvd going towards Marco Island - at the next stop light a road goes off to the right and takes you into Isles of Capri - the tour from there indicates you will see dolphin, manatee and birds. I often saw dolphin and manatee come up right next to the kayak and sometimes swim along beside us when I lived on Marco Island and used to kayak in that area...and yes, start with a guide until you are familiar with the area.

You can rent kayaks next door to the Capri Fish House on the Isles of Capri which is not far from Hammock Bay. Don't think they offer a guide service, but they seem to give people a pretty good briefing before letting them loose!

I rented the kayaks from Isles of Capri at the Capri Fish House. See

www.saltwatersportsflorida.com/rentals.htm

I recommend it. There were no guided tours that day we went.

Tips:

- this rental point is a good starting point to the mangrove islands and if you have the time to go to Keywadin island

- beware of crossing some of the channels, in peak season, boaters are sometimes fast and may not see you. The boat traffic is busy during peak season.

- in advance of showing up pay attention to the tides and call them for advice ... you absolutley don't want to fight the tides. Plan your trip with the tides.

- double kayaks tend to be slower ... when they tell you it takes 3 hours to go around Johnson Island it is slower with a two seater.

- bring water food and sunscreen for a long trip

There is a strict no pet policy near the Hammock Bay waterways. No dogs allowed. You might want to consider this before putting a deposit on a kayack tour.

Hope this helps,dolt
