Wedding for 2 - Naples or Ft. Lauderdale

Hi,

We are getting married next year, probably late July and it will just be the two of us. I can not decide on Naples/Marco Island or Ft. Lauderdale. Honestly, I have only been to Orlando and South Beach so I have nothing to go on except pics and advice from you fine people!

We are looking for some place that has a lot to do but don't want to be busy, busy, busy the whole time we are there. We are in our early 30's and enjoy cocktails but not clubs. I like to snorkel and I LOVE the water in South Beach. We like boating and motorcycles so will probably at least want to rent a boat for a day and maybe a bike, who knows! Don't really care about shopping.

We want the ceremony to be on the beach, of course it will be very simple since it's just us but I am hoping somehwere that is not packed with people.

So, can you tell me a little about the atmosphere in Naples and if you have experience in Fort Lauderdale, that would be awesome!

Thanks!

Amberbean,

Congrats on your forthcoming wedding, I have visited Naples for the last 3 years on holiday as we love it loads of places to grab a cocktail or 2, great places to eat, things to do and see and the you cant fault the beaches, some parts are busier than most but obviously you wont be getting married in the middle of the afternoon. Vanderbilt can be busy, we usually go near the pier and to the beach near Lowdermilk Park. We have stayed at the Edgewater which is on the beach, the Bellasera which is closer to 5th/3rd and also at the lovely Hyatt at Coconut Pointe which is out of the main part of Naples at Estero but which is a hotel with lots of space and its own beach you get to by boat, only small but a peaceful place to sit and watch the dolphins..we are going back next year but doing Las Vegas first will need a rest after the hustle of there!! hope this helps.....Laura

Hi Amberbean,

First, congrats on your engagement!

Of course I live in Naples so I might be a bit biased but I have also been to Ft. Lauderdale so I can compare the two.

The water in Naples is not anything like South Beach since it is the Gulf of Mexico and therefore mostly calm waters. There will be no big waves and snorkling is not that great. No reefs there. You will see many dolphins frolicking around though.

You will not find many clubs in Naples but there are quite a few nice dining places with live entertainment. There are also some nice cruises you can go on such as the Naples Princess.

There are plenty of boat rental companies and the rates are very good in the summer. Park Shore Marina is a good choice. They do not have a website but here is the address and phone number.

As for motor cycle rentals, Naples Harley Davidson does rentals.

I have seen weddings on the beach at The Ritz Carlton, La Playa Resort, The Edgewater Hotel and Naples Beach Hotel. I have also seen weddings on the beach at Lowdermilk Park. If you call any of these hotels or the parks and rec department you can get an idea of the requirements to get married on the beach. The nice thing about marrying in Naples on the beach is you can have a sunset wedding whereas in Lauderdale you cannot. I also think the beaches are much nicer in Naples.

Have you thought about Key West? It's all about the water, bikes, food.... lovely place to have a simple wedding.

Just wanted to thank you all for your information! I'll be discussing everything with my fiance and hopefully we can get this thing going by the beginning of the year! LOL...we've been waffling on plans since we got engaged in May! We were in Vegas...should have just gotten married while we were already there!

Thanks again!
