Just returned from New Smyrna Beach, Florida (last week of...

Just wanted to provide info about New Smyrna Beach to ANYONE interested. This an absolutely lovely beach to go to in FL, USA. If you want excitement, you'll be disappointed because this is THE place to experience true, authentic, quiet, relaxing Florida. We absolutely love it and have been coming here for 3 years. We stay right on the beautiful beach and NOT in one of the stuffy hotels or resorts, but rather in a comfortable and easy going family time-share "The Islander". We simply walk the beach, lay in the sun, swim in the heated pool, and the fantastic hot tub. Forget superficiality here folks, just relax....who cares, you are on vacation to rejuvenate and restore yourself....stop the pretences at the Islander.

Eat at "The Grill at the Riverside Hotel and Spa"....Norwoods is also impressive with their extensive wine list. And for breakfast, you must go everyday to "The Beacon" in the old downtown village of New Smyrna on Flagler Avenue....the pancakes are the biggest and fluffliest you'll ever have on the planet.

Drive down to Merritt Island to "The Dove" authentic Italian restaurant for a divine evening....transplants from NY/NJ so it is the REAL deal of Italian food.

For fresh, right out of the ocean fish, go to the SeaHouse Restaurant on the river in New Smyrna....fancy, NO, but delicious and great prices, YES!!! MMMMMmmmmmm! Yum!

New Smyrna Beach is one of the best kept secrets of Florida which we sadly will share with all of the readers.

If you get bored, go golf or go to the Mall of the Millinea in Orlando for Prada, Gucci, Coach, Louis Vitton, Neiman Marcus, Bloomingdales and MORE....only an hour away.

Enjoy the peace and the restoration of your mind, body, and soul, in the quiet and peace of New Smyrna Beach, Florida.

bizElady,

We love New Smyrna Beach too. The quaintness, as you mentioned, plus the fact that it is very under-populated by tourists, with nice places to eat and a super beach, is what we go for during our time off of teaching between semesters. We don't want all the hype and tourist traps, but can drive to whatever we want easily from there. We are surprised by how many people do not know of NSB.....but this is a good thing! Our family doctor spent every one of his childhood summers there and said that he, too, misses going to NSB. He said that you've just got about everything you need right there in that one little area. Very true!
