No Pets

How strict are no pet rules in the vacation homes? Are owners willing to make exceptions for more money for a very old well behaved dog?

Actually, there are several private homes on Captiva that will allow pets with a fee.

Unfortunately our extended families are booked at one that say no pets. We have a 13 yr old diabetic arthritic lab that can not be boarded.

Sneak him in, and lose the deposit I am afraid.

I would call the owner and throw yourself (and some money) on his mercy. Otherwise, you'll need to stay elsewhere.

And keep in mind it's not necessarily the owner's choice, their insurance may prohibit renting to people who will bring dogs in the home. Perhaps you should consider a professional pet sitter who will come to your home and care for your dog. Most sitters are very familiar with dogs that need medication and a dog staying in their own home is much less stressful than travel and a new home if your dog is really that frail.

Some vets (or their assistants who can give injections) will board pets in your situation- have you asked?

Would advise against sneaking in a pet; you could loose more than just the deposit...you could be asked to vacate the property and loose your entire rental payment. Best to ask the owner directly.
