Looking for a house on Captiva for a week in Feb. any ideas?

Hi!

We've stayed in Sanibel several times and are thinking of trying a house in Captiva. We are looking for a private heated pool and a view of the gulf. It's for 2 adults and 1 teen and 1 child. We are looking at either the last week in Jan. 2014, first week in Feb. or second week in Feb. And we don't want to break the bank! I've been looking on VRBO and other sites. Does anyone have a recommendation?

Thank you!!

Smaller pool homes with a view are a little harder to come by. The Island is very narrow and is mostly made up of private homes, so really, no matter where you stay, you will be very close to the beach. Many of the 2 and three bedroom homes are one level and won't afford you that view.

It's a little different than Sanibel where many of the condos are either gulf front or have a gulf view. Not sure what your budget is, but Jan. and Feb are in season, so the rent will be the highest it is all year. If you want a condo or a townhome, there are a few that we can recommend that will be beach front, or have that view.

For private homes:

take a look at AMRC of Captiva and Royal Shell Vacations. They are the two largest agencies on the Island and handle a great majority of the rental homes. AMRC has a great interactive map that will give you an idea of how the Island is laid out.

Look at Bauhinia, Laika House, Sunset Captiva 12 -22, The Stafford Home, Leapin Lizard, Casa Captiva, Sea of Green and A Shore Thing, all through AMRC

Look at Amarelo Sol and the Sunset Captiva homes through Royal Shell.

Sunset Captiva is a community of individual stilt homes that have a shared pool. They are really a bargain and great for four people. The lower the numbers, the closer you are to the beach access.

Also take a look at Mermaid Home, great location and perfect for four:

Miller Time Villa is also very close to the beach and has an awesome pool.

A private home with a pool and on the Gulf is 'break the bank' territory. Even the Gulf front homes in Sunset Captiva get over $4000 a week and that's a community pool. I agree with bean, try a near beach cottage with pool or consider a condo.

Thank you so much for your help! We've gone back and forth thinking about gulf view vs private pool, and decided to go with view of the gulf! We'll look at smaller condo buildings on sanibel to get the gorgeous gulf to look at!

Thank you for all your help!

I suggest Sundial Q306 with a great panoramic Gulf view with great interior décor. The reviews are fabulous.

Thank you for the suggestion! We honeymooned there 20 years ago! My concern was that we couldn't use the main pool because we'd rent from the owner and are we able to see the sunsets? In the past we stayed off West Gulf Drove to see the sunsets. Our kids would want to use the main pool if they saw it!

Thank you for the suggestion!

There is a "new sheriff in town' and the rules have changed at Sundial. Blackstone, the investment company that almost ruined Sundial is out and the new owner is a group led by John Naumann, of John Naumann & Associates Realty. The pool is now open to all and there are new restaurants just opened as well as a full update of the lobby and bar. This is now a dining destination for all!

That is good news! We'll have to check that out. I read that they re-did the big pool and restaurants

Thank you for the info!

Note there is a difference between Captivia and North Captivia. North Captivia is only accessible by Ferry which you can book but it is costly to get back to mainland.

I did this in error. Leaving tomorrow and will let you know how the Island is. So far $200 in Ferry cost and parking and we have not even left yet!!
