I remember there was a little beach, I think by Wilderness Lodge at Disney with hammocks and a boat ride that went to an island. The Island had lots of wildlife and birds on it, and near the restaurant there was a little petting farm with goats to feed. Is any of this stuff still there? I haven't been there in probably 12 years.

i think it was discovery island. it closed down a while ago. it is now a reconised bird sanctuary place. when we did a speciality cruise the tour took us close, it was pitch black and when he shone his torch in the island there were hundreds and hundreds of birds on it. really eerie!!!

Hi there!.

Lat post is correct, it was called Discovery Island.

Discovery Island was closed in April 1999 after Disney's Animal Kingdom opened. Some of the birds and animals were moved to Animal Kingdom at that time, and the rest were relocated to other zoos and wildlife areas. Interestingly, the area at Animal Kingdom where the Tree of Life is located is also called Discovery Island. Meanwhile, the original Discovery Island is still there in Bay Lake, but it isn't really used for anything anymore. Every now and then a rumor surfaces about plans for an attraction on the island, but nothing has come of it yet.

Hope that helps a little!

I remember visiting River country too but thats long gone :(

It's nice that it's still there, even if it's not open to the public.

Hi there!.

Yes, it is nice that they are both still there and

although Discovery Island has closed seemingly for good, its name lives on in Disney's Animal Kingdom, as it is the land which contains Tree of Life.
