Hiring a car whilst in Orlando.

Has anybody done this? I have read on here that it is cheaper to buy a package before you get to US (this is what we did on our last trip) but was just wondering how much more expensive to arrange a car after arriving at your resort/hotel.

No offense intended. There are just certain subjects that produce multiple opinions. This is one of them.

You will get plenty of advise.

Dont panic joe, its a fair question.

Your getting it mixed up with shall I have a car or not.

The saving is quite conciderable by doing it this side of the pond as they have already bundled in the full inclusive insurance deals of about £120 a week for an intermediate car all in.

I cannot tell you the cost at a hotel other than you could check out a web site for a cold call hire with a US car hire firm.

I take it you dont want it for the whole holiday ?

If you do then you may as well get it direct as you land and save a transfer fee.

IMPO get it in UK and pick it up at the airport.

Tiger,

Point well taken.

Actually, the question as to hire a car or not is fair, it's just that it has been beaten (do you use past paticiple <beaten> of beat in the UK, or is it just beat? I know gotten is not used.) to death.

Joe you didn't read carefully enough, they're not asking whether or not they should rent a car, just how much more expensive it is to arrange it after they get here ;) Don't jump the gun!

Anyways...Unless you get a really good deal ahead of time, rental car prices remain pretty steady. However, you can rent a car outside of packages, which some people on the forum it sounds like have found to be cheaper than going with it in the package. If you go to www.mousesavers.com and try some of the coupon codes, you'll find that there are a lot of deals to be had if you book before hand!

Joe,

I would always use the past participle if it has already happened.

" I went motor racing last week and was beaten into second place "

I keep the "beat" in the future tense.

" I am going motor racing again next week and I will beat him this time"

What has happened to this post.............

I still think it's cheaper to book it this side of the Atlantic.

My understanding of it all is this. In order of cost, most expensive first, least expensive last, it goes:

1: Take the "free" hire car included in your fly/drive

2: Forget the "free" car and just rent one when you get there

3: Forget the "free" car and rent one via an independent UK agent before you go

4: (I had to say this) Forget the "free" car and use the bus. :)

Thanks for the answers, we are not sure how long we would want a car for and did not want to book it and find the transport around the hotel is adequate.
