Tesco Travel Money Card - $2 =£1 today

Has anyone got one of this prepaid MC cards from Tesco - seem like they work the same as the Fairfx card but they are free if you load with over £100 and the exchange rate today is $2 = £1 - this is much better than Fairfx rate today of $1.9675.

Would like to hear some thoughts on this card if you have any .

The link for the info is :

Hi

I think this looks good and I'm going to apply now,I have a few hotel bills and cruise balance to pay in dollars so I hope I am right in thinking I can use this online to make these payments.

From what I can see with Tesco, the only charge is for cash withdrawals ($4 a go) and $10 to remove any cash and close the account when you get home.

Don't think its chip and pin though but well worth it for that exchange rate if you can guarentee you won't lose it.

If you withdraw smaller amounts of $100 or so at the time, and then have to pay 10 to get your left over money at the end, then Crown Currency is better overall depending on the amount you put on the card.

Crown doesn't charge the above fees, and you can get several cards in different names on each card so that all responsible members of any family/group can use the same account/card.

I've just applied for one, but not happy that the max you can load initially is $750. You cannot load again until you receive the card which takes 7 days. Is this just a con to get you to apply, then when the card arrives you're stuffed if the rate is much lower.

Levets it is not a con.

They just introduced the card this week, so it is more teething pains I think.

They will be on a network so accepted like Visa etc. Ask them to see which one.
