You can get $1.60 for later this year, and $1.58 for summer.
Was surprised thought Crown would've raised their rates by more - given the forecasts.
Fairfx are offering 1.56 for their credit card, plus Thomas Exchange are at 1.556.
I'd be surprised if at least $1.50 is available in the high street at the mo.
All good news - $1.75 by summer ;-)))
I think it may drop back a little today but may rise slightly next week.
My biggest issue is with how this affects prices in the UK. I see no signs of ticket prices dropping. I also see no sign of petrol prices here dropping - even though we buy oil in Dollars. I know oil has risen - but I thought this strengthening would have offset the rises.
Back in the new year, I was indicating $1.60 as being my predicted rate for September. I think it might be higher than that now.
On sky news as I type:
"Sterling at a five month high against the dollar"
The expert said that a fair value for the £ against the $ is about 1.65!!
Economists have forecast a rate of $1.55-1.56 by the summer. I cannot see it going to $1.75 in the near future. Chinners may be nearest as I reckon it will reach a possible $1.60 thgis year. It is falling now as profits are taken. J.
The 1.75 rate came from an article on FT.com which Citigroup claimed that the £ was trading around 15% below "fair value" against the $, Barclays predicts a 18% rise and Goldman Sachs a 23% gain. The article was written when the rate was $1.54.
Tourist rates in Peterborough town centre say Thomas Cook at 1.5228 & Post Office at 1.5220 for exchanges more than £500.
We've decided to change our money in 3 chunks, bought the first chunk today and will wait and see how the exchange rate changes next month.
Back at the start of the year I forecast that by September the rate would be $1.70 to the £
Not sure it will make that rate but will be close I am thinking
