flying next week, never really had a bad flight with them in 7 years of flying with them

The gatwick-orlando route has the worst entertainment system but still has a choice of fils to watch.

hi, we flew with virgin in may, manchester to mco, it was the best flight ever, we had to pay £50 each for exit seats, personal choice on films, the seats and plane seems no different than any others we've been on but the service at check in and there after was fantastic and both flight took off on time,

unlike last year we went with thomas cook it was a monach plane absolutley awful 4hrs delay each way and the oldest plane ever!!,

There are always bad reviews about airlines, because things do go wrong and people write reviews because they feel strongly about it. But the vast majority have routine, perfect flights and no one knows about it.

I've always found Virgin better than most others, but thats not to say every flight with them has been perfect.

Have been to the USA over 30 times and always flown with Virgin. I think they are very good. Have flown to Orlando about a dozen times. It takes around 8.5 hrs. Each seat has its own RV screen. Depending on the age of the plane they use, you will either get the entertainment system that plays films in a loop, or the new system where you can chose what film to watch, when to watch it and can stop and start it like a video. You will also have TV channels, radio channels, sky map (to follow the progress of the plane) and video games. With the new system you can also text folk in other seats and play some of the games against them.

As for the food, it is not brilliant but you get quite a bit of it. About 1.5 hrs after take off you get your "dinner", which consists of a salad starter, main course, desert, cheese and biscuits, roll and coffee. They will offer you wine with dinner. Then, sometime during the remainder of the flight, you get an ice-cream and before landing, afternoon tea, which is usually a wrap or a sandwich. Any alcoholic drinks you want (after the first drinks service after take-off) you have to ask for. They come round regularly with water and orange juice during the flight.

Generally the cabin crew are very helpful and a good laugh.

Hope you enjoy your flight.

Traveller ...

Virgin have cut out the cheese and biscuits!!

Just returned from a 3 week trip to Orlando, and VA have cut out a few things to save money, the cheese and biscuits being one. Pretzels no longer served with drinks either, and the drinks trolley only came around the once (though I appreciate one could go and request one). Also no 'posh' Virgin glasses now - only plastic - this is in economy, don't know about PE or UC. (On a separate topic, does anyone know why they request passengers not to consume nuts on their flights BUT then serve sandwiches with afternoon tea which state on their packaging that they 'contain nuts'??!!!)

leanne09 - we've travelled with them 5 times in the last 4 years and despite one or two hiccups, they are pretty good! We flew out of Gatwick, and both out and return had problems with the entertainment system not 'kicking in' but it eventually got going.

Have a great trip!

We have flown with Virgin for at least 20 years - nearly every year once or twice. We have never had a bad flight or bad experience with them. The food is usually edible (sometimes we have been in PE, others Economy). I would recommend them if asked.

The Orlando planes are not always the most current ones so you never know what the seats/entertainment are going to be like.

Have only been delayed (I think) once, and not for too long - maybe couple of hours.

You get ice cream during flight, together with alcoholic drinks and soft drinks.

Staff are usually very good - but like everything else, they sometimes have their off days.

Most recent flights to Jamaica they were fabulous.

Skinny - because so many people are allergic to nuts they have to declare that food prepared in a nut environment area (not necessarily containing nuts) may contain nuts.

The Gatwick to Orlando route is serviced by Virgins YOUNGEST 747-400 fleet, as yound as BA's 777 that run the same route.

All seats have a seatback tv and a minimum of 31" leg room

Certain seats are available with extra legroom bookable at checkin

Depending on which 747 is flying that route, it will have either NOVA IFE, 8 film channels running on taped loops or ODYSSEY IFE with 10 film channels operating on film loops.

All children regardless of class they are flying get a KID backpack, with a small amount of bits and pieces in the bag, the bag is useful for the parks.

They will serve you a main hot meal, meat, chicken or vegetarian, plus a snack before landing

Certainly drinks are available outside the trolly route from the galleys.

leanne - it's just a 9hr flight, seats, food and entertainment are the same the world over unless you travel business class or the like.

Virgin will get you there and back in one piece - end of!!!!

we flown with virgin last year and found it a very average flight. if there were more direct options from manchester we'd give them a try. thomas cook do have a bigger seat pitch but a disgrace of a baggage allowence so we'd probably use virgin again.
