Suggestions for a beach day?

We're planning a family trip to Orlando in March and would like to do at least one day at the beach. Does anyone have any suggestions on where to go? We've thought about heading over to Daytona for the day but if I've heard correctly, the beaches are not real nice over there ? What about the other direction toward the Gulf side? I would appreciate any advice! Thanks!

Clearwater Beach is a great choice for somewhere to relax away from Orlando.

Driving time is approx 1.5 hrs depending on traffic.

Parking is easy to find on weekdays but more difficult to find at weekends.

Lots of good stuff to do at the beach and many good places to eat within walking distance

Hi I would recommend Anna maria island. It has some of the best beaches i have ever seen. It is about an hour and a half drive away but the island itself is definatley worth a visit. Here is the official site.

Siesta Key near Sarasota is a great white fine sandy beach, roughly a 2 hour drive from the Orlando area via Route 4 and 75 South. Well worth the drive!!

As the two above posts mention, the Gulf side is best. Beautiful beaches and waters.
