Any good restaurants where the locals go...?

Hello!

I will be visiting the Orlando area in the early spring. I was wondering if you have any recommendations for good Italian or American food (burgers etc). I am NOT looking for chain restaurants or a Hard Rock cafe type restaurant, Cheescake, Uno's, Miller's Ale house, but a good place you can go to for a good burger or Italian food that is popular with the locals etc. less touristy.

Also, a place that doesn't break the bank either... Just a middle of the road type place.

I have looked at the top places to eat on trip advisor in the Orlando area, but didn't see anything too exciting.

I will have a car rental so driving to certain locations will not a be a problem.

Thank you !! :-)

As you will be driving you could try Mannys in Haines City

www.mannyschophouse.com

It's about a 20 min drive from Orlando

It does get very busy but you can call ahead

They do have another venue but can hardly be called a chain

For Pizza try Anthony's Stone Coal Pizza in the Phillips Crossing which is just 1 block west of International Drive on Sand Lake Road.

Yellow Dog Cafe in Gotha for wonderful pulled pork sandwiches, soups and salads.

Flemings Steak House on Sand Lake Road do a great hamburger during their nightly Happy Hour from 5-7 PM for only $6.00 served with fries too!!

Locals usually don't frequent the tourist areas - so if you are prepared to drive a little, here are some recommendations, but no chains:

Italian, Antonio's La Fiamma http://antoniosonline.com/?page_id=24

Yellow Dog Eats...

Its a bit of a stretch calling it a 'restaurant' but its the best place I've come across for real home made food which is devoured by the locals. Just be prepared for a really 'relaxed' style... The food is fantastic.

tripadvisor.co.uk/Restaurant_Review-g34515-d…

It is rated just now 14 of over 1500 restaurants in the area. You will need a car to get there - it is off the tourist trail and sits in a residential area.

The tourist areas are full of chaons and places you would not like.

Stick to the City center and suburban areas where locals live or work. Most likely will need a car.

Bruno's Italian restaurant - family run Italian food, really nice, hidden gem - looks nothing from the outside but the food is good :0)

Regarding Bruno's, do you have a link or an address?
