Our first full day was Thursday, Dec 6th. I had a plan to get up early for EMH at the Magic Kingdom, and go right to the new Fantasyland for opening day. I thought we would go on a few rides, then get over to Be Our Guest restaurant around 10:30 and try to get in for lunch. Sounds like a good plan, right? But it was not to be.
We did get up early and were at MK for the 8 am opening. We posed for a picture in front of the castle (of course!) with the PhotoPass photographer. Then we went right to Fantasyland and were told they were not open till 10 am, after the opening ceremony. Hmmm... WHY did we get up early? Anyway, we then went over to Space Mountain and got on with no wait. I must be getting old because it seemed much faster and scarier than I remember, and really hurt my back and neck. I was being bounced all around and could not enjoy it because of the pain. This would be a one time ride! Next we did Splash Mountain and Big Thunder Mountain, which were both much more enjoyable. We made our way over to the new Fantasyland at 10 and there was a big crowd waiting to get in while they had the opening ceremony. Once we got in, we went to Be Our Guest and were told that it would be closed all day for the media event. So much for that plan. So we went on the new Little Mermaid ride, which was really good. Not too much else was actually open there. There was Enchanted Tales with Belle, and Gaston's Tavern, and that was pretty much it. We went on Winnie the Pooh, Haunted Mansion, and It's a Small World (don't ask me why). That's all the rides we did in MK.
I had made a reservation at Whispering Canyon for lunch in case Be Our Guest didn't work out. So we decided to take the boat over to Wilderness Lodge and have lunch there. On the way we caught the Street Party parade, which was fun. Whispering Canyon had good food and our waitress was really a character. I asked her if she would take a picture of us, and she said "I'd be very happy to shoot the both of you". We got the family style barbecue lunch. We could hear our waitress scolding a guy at the next table for not paying attention when she explained the entrees. They also made the mistake of asking for ketchup. The waitress yelled out that they were going to need a lot of ketchup and one poor kid at their table was enlisted to go gather all the bottles of it.
We got back to MK in time to see the 3 pm parade, then went back to our hotel to rest before MVMCP that night. The party was fun...very crowded. We got our cookies and cocoa and went to the Totally Tomorrowland Christmas Show. We walked around and watched the dance party with Goofy and Pluto, took some PhotoPass pictures, and then the fireworks and Christmas parade. And of course it was snowing! Really loved the parade, and also the Celebrate the Magic images on the castle right before the fireworks.
The weather was sunny and in the 80s right up until the day before we left. We were told it is usually in the 70s. I brought lots of winter clothes that I never wore once. Also it was a lot more crowded than I anticipated. Seems a lot of parents pulled their kids out of school. As the week wore on the crowds seemed to grow. Still it was not unbearable and we really didn't wait too long for rides
Bedtime now...will continue tomorrow..
