Walking from Port Orleans Riverside

It has probably been asked before, but I can't find it! Presuming it's not too hot, is is possible to walk to Epcot / Boardwalk / Studios from Port Orleans Riverside?

No.

You can walk between Riverside and French Quarter. It takes about 10 minutes to go between the two main pools.

Disney is huge and without walkways along the roads.

You can walk between Epcot > Boardwalk > Studios. But not from Port Orleans.

Disney makes very little provision for walking nor cycling on its property. The only place you can walk to from POR is to POFQ. And it's not far. The attractions themselves are several miles from the resort.

Thanks everyone. So if we were going to the Boardwalk to eat, do we travel from POR to Epcot or HS?

If you've got time take the boat to downtown disney and then the boardwalk bus, or go to any of the parks and transfer to a boardwalk bus or walk from hs or through epcot to the rear gateway near United kingdom and out onto the boardwalk that way. If you want to drive it's easy to park at one of the resorts there, such as yacht and beach club, and say you have a dinner reservation. We use transport as then we can both have a couple of drinks !

With Hollywood Studios you won't need to use a park admission. You would need to enter Epcot to reach the Boardwalk from there.

You'll need to check park hours if you plan on being there late in the evening. You can use Downtown Disney as a transfer point if Hollywood Studios is closed. It will probably take longer but DTD is open very late and the boat shuttle between there and your resort is very pleasant. I believe the boat runs fairly late (11:00 PM maybe?) but there is also bus service between the two that runs well past midnight.

"So if we were going to the Boardwalk to eat, do we travel from POR to Epcot or HS?"

HS.

Boardwalk is next to the back entrance/exit of Epcot. The bus drops at the front. You'd have to pass through the park. So you'd need to use a ticket (and one with Park Hopper if you were at a different Disney park that day).

You could simply plan for a day when you'd be at Epcot or HS.

Going via Downtown Disney is always an option, but generally will be faster to visit another resort via a park (if that park is still open) or directly from a park.

As I am reading your messages I am starting wonder if you need a car to get around in Disney world, i.e. to get to restaurants in the evening.

We stay in Disney Port Orleans Riverside. How do you get to a restaurant ?. Do we have to take buses all the time? or are there any taxi's?

Welcome to the forum sunbird

We stay at Disney Resorts quite a bit, never rent a car and don't use Taxis to get from point A to Point B. We use Disney Transportation to get around all 47 square miles of Disney World Property

Getting around on Disney Transportation is very "doable". The route and mode of transport ( monorail, Boat, bus or your own feet ) depends on where you want to go and where your starting point is

To make it simple, we plan our Dinners at the Park of the Day or at a Near by Resort to the Park of the day

Do you already have a Basic Plan of which Parks you will visit on each day ? Have you made any ADRs ? ( advance dining reservations )

The land that Disney owns is huge-but very little of it is developed. They just do not encourage walking at all so no,you cannot walk to any of the parks from Port Orleans Riverside. You can walk to Epcot and HS from the Epcot Resorts and to MK from the Contemporary but other than that,no pedestrian paths. We pretty always have a car and it makes it much easier and more convenient to get around for restaurants and park going and shopping. Otherwise, there are plenty of taxis(which are an excellent option). Disney buses used to be better than they are now;they often make multiple stops and going from DTD back to your hotel for example, can often involve an hour or more-even though most of the hotels are within a few miles. Drive if you can, especially at the end of the day,its much easier to go to your car instead of waiting in line for a bus or boat or monorail
