Picking up car hire from MCO

When you go to pick up your car do you have to take the family with you or can they wait with the

luggage at the airport? How far is the pick up and how long does it take. Will be travelling in a group of 8 adults and 6 children.

They ask that only the drivers queue for at the rental desks. The family can wait with the luggage. The rental desks are on Level One and the cars are located just across the street in the multi storey car park.

How long it will take will depend on how many people in front of you, anything from 5 minutes to over 2 hours is not unusual. Which car rental firm are you using? You can join a loyalty program with most rental companies that will allow you to bypass the rental desks.

The car rental faciltiy is in the garage across the street if you are using an onsite company. For off site the bus is right out the door. Your family can go with you or they can wait with the luggage and you can pick them up at baggage claim. It is pretty easy to get back to there, but you have to pay attention to which side you are on and follow the signs closely.

One bit of advice if walking. When you cross the street to the garage pay attention to the walk sign. Incoming traffic doesn't stop for pedestrian traffic unless they have the light.

If we have checked baggage, the family usually collects it on level two of the terminal while I go down to level one to the rental counter. As Sungod notes, the onsite garage is just across the drive from level one of the terminal, about a 2-3 minute walk, even with baggage in tow. Or, you can get the car, and then arrange to meet at one of the (numbered) doors on level two -- just note the door number nearest the baggage carousel you are using, and also be sure to note which side of the terminal (A side or B side) you are using, and after you leave the parking garage, just follow the signs to "A arrivals" or "B arrivals" and the prearranged door number. Drive defensively, as many drivers don't know their way around the airport and may stop suddenly or swerve in front of you, as happened to me twice yesterday when I returned my rental at MCO.

If we just have wheeled carry-on baggage, we all go down to level one together, and they just sit down in nearby chairs while I do the paperwork, and we then all jus walk across the drive and collect our car. Everything is fairly close together if you use an onsite rental company.

If you have preregistered for the car through a loyalty program, you can often skip the rental counter and go directly to the garage. If you are using an off-airport rental company, it's usually better to all stay together and take the shuttle bus with your baggage, as some of the offices are some distance from the airport.

Join the loyalty program of whatever company you are renting from and then go straight to the garage-then it will take about 5 minutes. No need to wait at the rental desk inside the airport. Leave the family(unless there are other drivers) at baggage claim and drive back to get them and the luggage.
