Saturday, April 27, 2013 - Surprise!!
This morning, we had breakfast reservations at Chef Mickey’s! But first, we had to secure the car rental. We rented from the Alamo Car Care Center that’s right next to the MK. I called for a pick up and DH and Friend got the car at 8am then came back to go with us for breakfast. One quick stop in the gift shop to buy autograph books and pens and off we all went to MK then monorail to the Contemporary. Got our family picture and were given a pager. About 30min wait. We ended up at 2 tables side by side but that was fine. The buffet was huge and had everything anyone wanted. And then slowly the characters started to arrive. We had never done a character meal before because we had always been with adults so this was our first time too. What a great time. Neice2 was a little cautious of Minnie as she was first but that did not last long. By the time the 3rd one came to the table, she loved them. This is a buffet for a set price, or 1 dining plan credit per person. For 3 adults, it would have been $115.75 including tip and tax. Total after dining plan credits came off - $16.73 just the gratuity.
My DH and Friend disappear and say they are headed back to the resort. We all shop a bit around the stores before heading back. Took the monorail to MK. We were going to do MK this day for a bit but decided we’d just wait. VERY long wait for a bus at MK back to Pop. There is always one bad bus wait per trip and this was it. 30mins I’d say.
We finally get back to Pop and mousekeeping is in the connecting rooms so we went from room to room to stay out of her way. The boys arrive back at the resort and about 5mins later, another guy shows up in the room…..took about a 5 second delay…….Uncle JD! My DH’s brother JD is here and we kept it a secret. Lol. There were SO many times we almost said something but we managed to keep it quiet. Surprise…..SUCESS! Basically, we all just hung out for a bit and then it was time for the guys to leave and head off to Tampa for the NHL game.
So the girls decided we really didn’t want to do very much so we headed down for supper in the food court and then just did the movie by the pool with some wine. Toy Story 3.
Sunday, April 28-Neice’s 6th birthday
Today was a big day! The good part was there was plenty of time before we had to be anywhere so everyone got to sleep in…..except us because we had to go return the car. Oh well, quick and easy and they dropped us back off at Pop and we had breakfast. We headed to DTD at about 11am. We had some time so the kids played in the water for a bit that squirts up when you first walk in the marketplace. They also rode the carousel which I believe was $2 per child. Then we headed to the huge World of Disney store where my Neice6 was picking out her birthday dress. She actually chose Jasmine. So she got her outfit, shoes and tiara. We also bought a new pair of shoes for Niece2 to go with her Belle dress. Once paid for, there is a change room where they are able to get changed. It was then time to check in for BBB. Where Neice2 was too little, dad and DH took her to go get an ice cream and ride the carousel to keep her distracted.
BBB gives you a pager and a small brochure with the 3 different hairstyles offered so you can choose beforehand. It was only about a 10min wait. Then we were buzzed. I wish I could remember our Fairygodmothers name as she was really good! My SIL had gotten the Crown package so this includes hair, make-up, nails, and a sash. My SIL, MIL and I were there with my Niece6 and I am SO glad I got to see it all happen. What a magical experience for her. She chose the Diva hairstyle which comes with a hairpiece and she was able to choose what color she wanted, same color as her hair or pink, white, etc. SIL did tell the Fairygodmother not to put the ponytail too tight and she obliged. And made sure to ask my niece6 throughout how it was. Oh and of course, we (the on-lookers) had to have a magical dusting as well, (oh my word the sparkles, they were on me for days, ha). If you wish to leave a tip to the stylist, there is an envelope at the end and then the little princess gets to put the envelope in a wishing well and make a wish. There are photopass photographers in and out all the time and they leave a photopass card on your station for them to randomly walk up and take more. It really was quite a long appointment but overall a great experience. They give the little princess a little bag to carry everything in when she leaves, her nail polish, makeup, comb, jewels, etc. This worked out great as my SIL could use of this to dress up Niece2 too. Just as we were walking out, we made the ‘princess parade’. It only happens once a day and all the girls who have been done up at BBB get to hold a ribbon and parade and wave down DTD. Very cute .
It was then time to head out of DTD as we had reservations at the Castle! It was a good thing we left as quick as we did. There was no bus going right to MK from DTD so we got on the Grand Floridian bus with the idea to take the monorail. Well, the bus went to Pleasure Island, Typhoon Lagoon, Poly then Grand Floridian. It actually worked out well as Neice2 fell asleep and had a nice long bus ride to rest. We then took the monorail to the MK. We had not been to this park yet so it was very neat to show the girls Cinderella’s castle. And we were going to be eating in there!! We went right there as we had 2 extra adults with us then were on the reservation. They fit us in no problem. (I was so worried about this so what a relief) I checked us in at the desk and just so you know, they would not let you unless all members of the party were there and you had to show them all of the people.
You then enter a little room with a line to get your picture with Cinderella. The photographer asks what pics you wold like as you get 3. We chose, Cinderella with the girls only, then Cinderella with the girls and the parents. Our last was one big group shot. As you are standing in line, the maître Dee rings a bell and announces your last name, you get a ticket and then can head up the stairs. Long winding red carpeted, staircase. We were seated in 2 tables but right next to each other.
It was neat how they announced the princesses. They put over loud speaker a little story about the princess about to enter and we let the girls guess who each one was. We had, Sleeping Beauty, Ariel, Jasmine and Aurora.
Nice part about this dinner is you get an appetizer included in the meal when you use the 2 credits for the dining plan. The price is $54.79 per adult for an app, entrée and dessert. For 3 adults, would have been $175.70 after tax. Of course we used the dining plan so we didn’t pay any of that, just a tip for a great waiter!
After supper, we decided to do some rides in Fantasyland. We did the Carousel, Winnie the Pooh, Ariel’s Grotto, Mickey’s Philarmagic, Dumbo and Goofy’s Barnstormer. We were quite happy with getting all of this accomplished with the whole group. The MIL, Step-FIL and Nephew11 headed back to Pop because Nephew11 wanted to watch Wreck-it-Ralph at the poolside movie. The rest of us stayed. It was getting late and the parade started at 9pm. It was about 8:15pm and as we started to make our way towards Main Street, it was really filling up. A lot of kids were sitting on the curb so we just parked the girls in the strollers behind and they could see fine. I went for snacks and light up things while we waited. The parade was great and it was a lot longer then I remembered. Very cool and worth standing on my very tired feet. Lol. Plus the girls thought it was great. Niece2 didn’t stop waving. At that point, SIL decided it was best not to push for the fireworks as the girls had done A LOT that day and had made out so well, best not to push her luck. I stayed with my DH, BIL and friend and we went off to grab FP for Space Mountain. Then we did Buzz Lightyear and rode the People Mover while the fireworks were going off. Back to ride Space Mountain (my first time). DH is not into roller coasters so he sat this one out. I enjoyed it to say I did it but would I do it again, I’m not sure. ha. Lol. Back to the Pop before the rush of closing at 11pm.
Monday, April 29th - Epcot
Everyone slept in again today. This was also the day I was slotted to leave due to my work commitments. Everyone headed off to Epcot while I stayed back to get some stuff accomplished and faxed off. DH and I headed to Epcot with the plan for me to say goodbye and so he could meet up with everyone. Well I ended up staying so that was great. Long story, but my original flight was still available as it had never been cancelled. Some things are just meant to be. I later receive various calls from US Airways and turns out, the flight was cancelled. So at least I did not waste my time at the airport only to come back anyways. The only problem was, my cell was dying and that was the one thing I needed to keep on me at all times this trip so back I went to Pop by myself to charge my phone. *sigh*
By the time I arrived back, the boys were having a great time drinking and eating around the World. I caught up with them enjoying the Spiced Rum Dole Whips. Then we went to Canada for a beer and they all bought moose antlers. If anyone saw a herd of ‘four male moose’ at Epcot being escorted by a girl ( me), that was us. People were asking them to take pictures with them and everything. Ha. We rode Test Track in the single rider line, about a 20min wait. When we got out, the others had returned back to the park. We split up again, I stayed with the kids and most of the boys headed back. We walked the loop around the World, had a few drinks, did Soarin and headed out. On the way out, there were these lights coming up through the stone pathways. The kids had a blast jumping all over them. It’s the little things…….On the way to the bus, it POURED so we ran. More fun for everyone. lol
Tuesday, April 30th, 2013
Today was our last full day. DME paper on the door handle to give us our info for pick up the next morning.
We all split up in the morning as we all decided to do what we wanted. I had work to do in the morning which my DH didn’t mind so he could sleep in. Then we went to MK. 2 others went to HS, 4 people went to DTD and 3 stayed back at the hotel. We all met back up later at Pop to get ready for our last meal. We had dinner reservations at Citricos that night. Everyone looked nice and we took the bus to MK and then monorail to the Grand Floridian. I saw the door for Victoria and Albert’s. One day I will go there! I swear!
We were seated at a large round table which is nice so you can see everyone in the group. Niece 2 decided she did not want to wear her dress so SIL took her to change. She was happy as a clam after that. Pick your battles people.
We had a great dinner. Where I was supposed to be leaving a few days earlier, I did not have any dining credits left so I had to pay out of pocket. My chicken entrée was $33.00. The rest of my bill was a bottle of wine for the table and a dessert wine. DH and Friend Nick had the Swordfish and Chicken and 2 apps plus 2 rum and cokes. Bill would have been $165.58 including tax and gratuity (gratuity based on subtotal before dining plan credit come off) Bill was $65.48
We walked around the Grand Floridian and browsed in all of their gift shops. What a beautiful hotel. I bought my father a pair of loafer type shoes at one of the stores which he now wears faithfully.
Wednesday, May 1, 2013 - HOME
Today we headed home. Up early to catch the DME and back to the airport. Goodbye’s were really hard but we had some wonderful memories and the kids still talk about it.
